Jon Hamm & Ed Harris Join Top Gun: Maverick

After months of barely hearing anything about the casting for the Top Gun sequel, here comes another announcement hot on the heels of the most recent additions. Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman are all joining Tom Cruise in the new movie. The sequel, which may still go by the title Top Gun: Maverick after the call sign of Cruise's Peter Mitchell, will explore a world where aerial combat is increasingly shifting from crewed aircraft to drones. But there is still a need for human pilots, so the likes of Mitchell are training the next generation. There's no information yet as to what Hamm, Harris or Pullman – the son of Bill, who was last seen in The Strangers: Prey At Night – are doing in the movie, but they'll be part of a cast that also includes Val Kilmer (back as fellow veteran flyer Tom "Iceman" Kazansky), Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller and more recent recruits Glen Powell, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Mon

Top Gun: Maverick Has Begun Production

Here’s some news to take your breath away — Top Gun 2 is finally happening, and it’s in production right now. The sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 fighter pilot action-drama has been stuck on the highway to the danger zone for years now, but according to Tom Cruise’s social media accounts today is officially ‘Day One’ on the project. The sequel is thought to be titled Top Gun: Maverick, with Cruise returning in that titular role, while Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is stepping behind the camera (in slow motion, against a hazy orange sunset). Cruise shared a picture on Twitter showing him back in his flight gear, clutching his Maverick helmet (oo-er), with the classic tagline ‘feel the need’. That, obviously, being the need for speed. The sequel is coming from Paramount and Skydance, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing, and a screenplay by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, who have separately scripted the likes of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, The Town, and Disney’s latest Jungle Book. Movie Review: Only the Brave

Only the Brave tells the wrong story and misses a potential golden opportunity for Oscar glory. Review by Matt Cummings With wildfires still pummeling Northern California, Only the Brave arrives to remind us about those who serve to stop from engulfing our towns and cities. Unfortunately, it's way too long and misses perhaps the most important angle: the one person who survived. Fighting wildfires requires a team of dedicated firefighters called Hot Shots, who manage the fire by digging trenches and using little water in the process. Hoping to make his team into an elite Type 1 unit, Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin) enlists the help of division chief and friend Duane Steinbrink (Jeff Bridges) to gain the needed certification. But it will be an uphill battle, as Marsh keeps replacing men who join other Type 1 crews for more money. One of those recruits is former drug addict McDonough (Miles Teller), who's trying to raise his baby daughter out of wedlock. He instantly confli

Top Gun: Maverick Landing In 2019

Since moving from the long stretch of development hell, with most of us wondering if it would ever actually get made, the Top Gun sequel has been jumping off the deck and shoving into overdrive. Details have been falling into place, and we now know the film, Top Gun: Maverick , is targeting a July 2019 release. With both a title and a confirmed director (Oblivion's Joseph Kosinski is reuniting with star Tom Cruise ), the sequel to the 1986 film finds Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell teaching young hotshot pilots how to do their thing in an age where unmanned drone warfare is becoming increasingly common. We don't yet know if any of his Top Gun cast colleagues will come back for this (Val Kilmer has said he'd be ready to defrost Iceman for the movie), but you never knows... Except Goose, of course. Poor Goose. The script for the movie has been through the hands of Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz and the current aim – Stateside

Cruise said the film will shoot within a year. The original film, which starred Cruise as hot shot pilot Maverick, was directed by the late Tony Scott, and has become a classic of pop culture. Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to produce the sequel, along with Skydance's David Ellison and Cruise. Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR

Joseph Kosinski To Direct Top Gun 2?

Tom Cruise is getting ready to head back to the Danger Zone — and he’s bringing an old friend along for the ride. Sources tell Variety that Joseph Kosinski — who directed Cruise in “Oblivion” — is the front-runner to direct “ Top Gun 2 ” for Paramount and Skydance Pictures. While no official offer has been made, several insiders believe one is imminent. Paramount had no comment. Cruise met with potential helmers prior to and while filming “ Mission Impossible: 6 ” in London to ensure the “Top Gun” sequel was ready to go after production wrapped. Even with Cruise and Kosinski having previously worked together on the 2013 sci-fi action film, sources say it was Kosinski’s vision the sequel’s direction that officially won him the job. “Oblivion” was a huge hit for Cruise and Kosinski bringing in $286 million worldwide and only seemed like a matter of time before the two worked again. Cruise recently confirmed to a British talk show that the sequel was moving forward and would

Joseph Kosinski To Direct No Exit

Variety is reporting Black Label Media, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Conde Nast Entertainment and producer Mike Menchel have tapped Joseph Kosinski to direct the Ken Nolan-scripted “ No Exit .” The pic tells the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of firefighters that faced one of the deadliest wildfires in history in order to save an Arizona town, resulting in the tragic death of 19 crew members. Nolan developed the story on spec with the producers. Di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam, Jeremy Steckler, Dawn Ostroff, Mike Menchel, Black Label Media’s Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill are producing the film. Black Label is financing. Kosinski broke out with “ Tron: Legacy ” and followed that up with Tom Cruise’s “ Oblivion .” Please Leave A Comment-

Should 'Mission: Impossible 6' Get a New Director?

We explain why this might be a good idea, and dole out some possible candidates. Story by Matt Cummings Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is well on its way to box office success, enjoying one of the highest critic reviews of the summer at 93% (via Rotten Tomatoes). The news of its second weekend at number one is perhaps a clearer indication of its staying power over newer competition: moviegoers love Mission: Impossible . Therefore, it was with a feeling of certainty that Paramount last week announced that plans for Part 6 are already underway . Under normal circumstances, it would be likely that everyone associated with a past hit be retained in order to guarantee that another hit happens. However, in the case of this franchise, it might not be necessary. Part of M:I 's continued success lies in seeing a new director each time take the reins to make their own distinction, something current director Christopher McQuarrie acknowledges in recent interviews. #Tron3 Is Off The Grid

According to THR Tron 3 won't be coming to a theater near you. Disney has chosen not to move forward with a third installment in the sci-fi series, sources say. While sources say the project was never officially greenlit, earlier this year it seemed that things were moving ahead with Tron:Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski returning to direct and stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund reprising their roles. Prep had been started on the third film, and production was looking to shoot this fall, likely in Vancouver, British Columbia. Disney had been interested in adding Jared Leto to the cast, but an offer and negotiations had never commenced. Disney has been developing a sequel to Tron:Legacy since the movie, made for $170 million, grossed $400 million worldwide. Legacy was the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi film that took place inside a computer world known as the Grid and starred Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. The film drew a big cult following and became a notable influenc

Olivia Wilde Returns for #Tron3

She re-joins Garrett Hedlund, but no word on Jeff Bridges. Story by Matt Cummings When Tron: Legacy debuted in 2010, it didn't exactly win everyone over, at least not right away. Chided by critics as missing the spirit of the 1982 trippy computer-generated cult classic, it's gone on to become a rather beloved forerunner to more recent films. From the beautiful imagery by Director Joseph Kosinkski to the huge orchestral score by Daft Punk, Tron: Legacy has stuck around in moviegoer's minds far longer than more recent, established franchises ( Amazing Spider-man , Transformers ). And while a follow-up was only recently guaranteed, it appears that another critical component has re-joined for another adventure. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Actress Olivia Wilde is set to return, along with Garrett Hedlund in the follow-up currently titled Tron 3 . Wilde, who played the computer-generated-butt-kicking Quorra, escaped with Sam Flynn (Hedlund) to the re

Tron 3 To Begin Shooting This Year

vancitybuzz is reporting that Tron: Legacy sequel will be filmed in Vancouver beginning this fall. Walt Disney Pictures has green lighted the third film in the Tron series. Filming is scheduled to begin on October 5, 2015. The project has been in development since the success of the 2010 film, which raked in $400 million with a $170 million budget. At this time, only Garrett Hedlund has been confirmed to return to the cast. In the previous film, Hedlund starred as Sam Flynn, the son of the 1982 film’s original character Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges) who became stuck in the Grid’s digital world for two decades. The character Quorra, a skilled Grid warrior and confidante to Kevin, was portrayed by Olivia Wilde. A majority of Tron: Legacy was shot at Canadian Motion Picture Park in Burnaby while some ‘real world’ scenes were filmed at the Shangri-La Vancouver Hotel (ENCOM headquarters), the Lions Gate Bridge (final escape scene) and neighbourhoods in East Vancouver. Tom Cruise To Go Like Hell

Tom Cruise is reteaming with his Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski for Go Like Hell, a racing drama set up at Fox. The project tells the true story of the competition between the Ford Motor Company and Italian sports car designer Enzo Ferrari , which culminated at the 1966 Le Mans race. It is based on the book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans , written by A.J. Baime and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2009. Michael Mann was once attached to direct the project. The project is in the early development stages and the script is likely to be overhauled to suit the stylings of Cruise and Kosinski. The studio is said to be making this a high priority with a plan of getting it before cameras next year. Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR

Joseph Kosinski Enters THE TWILIGHT ZONE

Joseph Kosinski is about to enter The Twilight Zone . The Tron helmer is in negotiations to direct the big-screen redo of the sci-fi property for Warner Bros. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are producing via their Appian Way banner, which is based at Warners. A number of writers have taken a crack at the screenplay, including Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes). The project is now being redeveloped for Kosinski. Plot details are being kept under wraps. Created by Rod Serling, The Twilight Zone began as a TV series that ran for five seasons on CBS from 1959 to 1964. Subsequent TV series were revived in 1985 and 2002. Oblivion Review. One Of The Best Of 2013

Oblivion  Review By: MattInRC Oblivion is pure Science Fiction eye candy and one of the best of 2013. In a year that's already seen its share of films with plot twists - some very well done ( Trance ) and some which left us wondering why we bothered ( Admission ) - Oblivion takes this potential Hollywood cliche to a new level, blending the best aspects of classic Science Fiction, and reminding us that great new stories are still out there to be told. As the Universal logo gives way to a tattered and post-apocalyptic Earth - ravaged by an alien invasion in 2017 - clean up man Jack ( Tom Cruise , Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol) and his partner Victoria ( Andrea Riseborough , The Devil's Whore) seek to keep a collection of automated drones functioning while the survivors of Earth rob the planet of its remaining resources. In the meantime, humanity has been hold up in a massive space station called the Tet, while Jack brave desolate conditions and Victoria keeps Jac

Joseph Kosinski To Deliver Ballistic City For AMC

AMC has put in development Ballistic City , a futuristic drama directed and executive produced by Oblivion helmer Joseph Kosinski and written/executive produced by Travis Beacham, co-writer of another upcoming tentpole sci-fi movie, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Ballistic City is expected to be among the projects in development announced at AMC’s upfront event in New York today, along with Ashland, from writers Allison Anders and Terry Graham. Ballistic City is described as “ Blade Runner meets Battlestar Galactica ” and tells the story of a former cop thrust into the criminal underworld of a city housed in a generational space ship destined for an unknown world. I hear the project is eyed as a potential companion to AMC’s genre blockbuster The Walking Dead. Kosinski, who previously directed Tron: Legacy , and Beacham, who also co-wrote Clash Of The Titans, executive produce with Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Michael Sugar.
