Blade Runner 2049 is both a surreal visual spectacle and a powerful experiential journey. Review by Matt Cummings Science Fiction and Sci-Fi have existed as twins, constantly misidentified and suffering from people's perceptions of the other. On the one side, you have Sci-Fi, which merely entertains and is always content with its role as party guest: think Starship Troopers or Aliens . THR is reporting Disney is exploring the idea of a movie that would act as a Leto vehicle. Disney is planning to get back on the grid. The studio is in the very early stages of development for a new Tron movie, with Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto circling to star. Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares , who has not appeared on screen before but was a key player in that script. No writer has been hired at this exploratory stage, and no filmmaker is involved. Justin Springer, who co-produced Tron: Legacy and exec produced the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Oblivion, will produce. Leto and and his producing partner Emma Ludbrook would also be involved in some producing capacity if the project moves forward. We're now a year away from the much-anticipated (and much-puzzled over) sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner . Many of the details are still under wraps, but at least it's no longer untitled: the film is called Blade Runner 2049 . Which makes sense, since the movie is apparently set several (the title makes it three, since the original takes place in 2019) decades after Scott's film. Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, and the world he inhabits has just gotten worse, with environmental catastrophe plaguing humanity. Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi and Dave Bautista are also among the cast, with Sicario and Arrival's Denis Villeneuve calling the shots. Jared Leto , Michael De Luca and Terence Winter are teaming up to tackle the life of Andy Warhol , the famed pop art artist whose blend of art and commerce made him a household name. Leto will portray the artist for the biopic, titled Warhol , as well as produce it, along with De Luca, the producer whose credits include such Oscar-winning and -nominated true-life tales as The Social Network and Captain Phillips. Winter, the Boardwalk Empire creator who wrote The Wolf of Wall Street, will pen the screenplay, using the Victor Bockris 1989 book, Warhol: The Biography, as a jumping-off point.
