Thor: The Dark World Review By: MattInRC A Thor -sized helping of Phase 2 is the best Marvel sequel so far. Back in the summer, we wrote a glowing review of Iron Man 3, but since then our opinion has noticeably dulled. Disappointed at the lack of 'Iron Man moments' and still seething over the treatment of The Mandarin, we recently demoted it out of our top 10 list of 2013. It therefore shouldn't come as a shock that we were worried whether Marvel Studios had lost a bit of their mojo post-Avengers. Luckily, Thor: The Dark World relieves any anxiety, delivering a deeper, tonally darker production that is also funny at times while setting its sights clearly on a larger-scale Phase 2. As if he hasn’t gotten enough exposure already, now Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is back for yet another shot of his very own. It looks for all the world like he’s sneaking up on Thor, ready to do something terrible with that knife. Unless, that is, the post has just arrived and he wants to open his latest issue of Sneaky Fiends Monthly. Interestingly, since this is a poster aimed at the German market, the title is Thor: The Dark Kingdom, which works almost as well as The Dark World. We’d be intrigued to know why it’s "Kingdom" in Germany – a clash with some other property that features the title? Something to do with the translation? The new issue of Empire hits newsstands next Thursday, and just to give you a taste of what to expect, here's a new batch of stills from Thor: The Dark World , offering a good look at Christopher Eccleston's Malekith and his armada, as well as the returning Asgardians. A first look at Thor: The Dark World has arrived online this morning, and it's looking like things will indeed be bigger, badder and a fair bit darker for the sequel to 2011's Norse blockbuster. This time, Chris Hemsworth's Thor is back on Earth to defend us all against the deadly forces of Malkeith (Christopher Eccleston), leader of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. Well, at the very least he's here to pick up Natalie Portman and get her out of harm's way, which we suppose is close enough. And it looks from this like he's going to need help from his disgraced brother Loki ( Tom Hiddleston ). Hooray! Er. We mean, boo hiss. Let's hope he gets hold of his horned helmet and/or some hair conditioner soon.  The whole thing is directed by Game Of Thrones' Alan Taylor - which perhaps explains all those warm looking cloaks (after all, winter is coming) - and also stars Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Jaime Ale
