IT CHAPTER TWO Trailer 'Are You Ready To Float Away?' & New Images

Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club—young and adult—in a return to where it all began with “ IT CHAPTER TWO .” The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “ IT ,” which grossed over $700 million globally. Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time. Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “IT CHAPTER TWO” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film. James McAvoy (“Split,” upcoming “Glass”) stars as Bill, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Mama”) as Beverly, Bill Hader (HBO’s “Barry,” “The Skeleton Twins”) as Richie, Isaiah Mustafa (TV’s “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”) as Mike, Jay Ryan (TV’s “Mary Kills People”) as Ben, James Ra...

Jessica Chastain In Talk To Join The “It” Sequel As Beverly

Jessica Chastain is in negotiations to star in New Line’s “ It ” sequel as the adult version of Beverly, sources tell Variety . Director Andy Muschietti is back to direct. Gary Dauberman will pen the script. Beverly was played by Sophia Lillis in the 2017 horror hit. Sources stress that negotiations are early and that the script is still being worked on, but both sides have officially begun discussing her coming on to the project. Bill Skarsgard is also expected to return as Pennywise. The sequel will bow on Sept. 6, 2019, with production expected to start this summer. Chastain has been linked to the sequel for some time following its monster opening weekend, as the Muschiettis mentioned her in an interview with Variety as a top choice to play adult Beverly in the sequel. Rumors even surfaced of a post-credits scene in which Chastain could have made a cameo, though that never came to fruition. Another layer to the rumors: Chastain has worked with Muschietti before, having st...

#Itmovie Is Back On Top

Despite his usual power at the box office, Tom Cruise could not overcome a resurgent, scary clown as It rose from the sewer once more to regain the chart's crown in the States after being knocked down last weekend by those Kingsman . The horror movie added $17.3 million to its total, according to studio estimates. The Cruiser's latest, sort-of-true crime tale American Made , wasn't far behind, earning $17.06 million, so there's a slim chance things could change when the final figures come in on Monday. But it appears It has lost none of its drawing power, and that it's not finished snapping records. American Made made do with second place, while Kingsman: The Golden Circle slipped to third on $17 million. The Lego Ninjago Movie actually moved up a place this weekend, earning $12 million. Rounding out the top five was poorly performing thriller remake Flatliners, which was sent to the morgue by reviewers and didn't find much life among audiences, launching...

It Sequel Arrives In 2019

Given the success of It , we're half expecting Pennywise the clown to show up with some shiny new gold teeth and maybe a more luxurious balloon. But regardless of what the central terror does in the intervening years, the follow-up to the first film will hit theaters in 2019. Andy Muschietti will be back to direct the adaptation of the second half of Stephen King's book, which follows the heroic Loser's Club as they return to Derry, Maine after 27 years. They thought they'd escaped the place and its nightmare creature, but a devastating phone call brings them all back. The new movie will also feature flashbacks to the kids' story too. It has been scaring away the competition at the box office for weeks (it was finally unseated by Kingsman: The Golden Circle this weekend) and snatched a host of records, including the largest opening for a horror film in the States, largest opening for a movie based on a book, and is the most successful cinematic scare ever in t...

#Itmovie Has A Huge Opening Weekend

After the disappointment of The Dark Tower , there must have been concern about the potential performance of It . Turns out, no one needed to worry – the new Stephen King horror adaptation has smashed records with a hugely successful $117 million opening at the US box office, according to studio estimates. It nabbed the largest September opening, largest autumn opening, and the largest opening for a horror movie of any rating. Clearly Pennywise the terrifying clown touched a few nerves while scaring up plenty of business. The follow-up, which will catch up with the Losers' Club kids from the movie as adults, is already in the works and there's clearly some anticipation for it now. And the film also did well overseas, taking in $62 million for a $179.1 million global opening. There was a big gap between the horror and its comrade in new arrival status, but programming a Reese Witherspoon comedy – which itself has enjoyed good reviews – against It has panned out. Home Again...

Movie Review: It

Don't be a bozo and miss It. Review by Brandon Wolfe Cinematic history is littered with the corpses of bad Stephen King adaptations. For every stone classic like Carrie or The Shining , you need to hold your nose and step over scores of Dreamcatcher s or Mangler s. Though possibly the most prolific horror author in history, his work often seems resistant to filmic translation. Perhaps that says something how inimitable King’s prose is, with so much of it taking place within his characters’ minds, or maybe it’s simply that his material doesn’t often enough find its way into the hands of filmmakers capable of doing it justice (even Kubrick famously chucked most of King’s novel out the window for his Shining adaptation; the 1997 TV-movie starring Steven Weber is far more faithful, and yet another moldering failure). When one assesses Stephen King’s body of work, it’s clear that the portions that exist solely on the page are largely what count. Now one of King’s most revered boo...

The story will be spread across two films. New Line Cinema’s horror thriller “IT,” directed by Andrés Muschietti (“Mama”), is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries. “IT” stars Bill Skarsgård (“Allegiant,” TV’s “Hemlock Grove”) as the story’s central villain, Pennywise. Stephen King's The Stand To Become Miniseries and Feature Film

Eight episodes and a movie. By Brandon Wolfe While the film version of Stephen King’s It may have recently fallen apart, the adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic magnum opus The Stand is still going strong. The Fault in Our Stars ’ Josh Boone is still set to direct the adaptation, which he has said in the past he wanted to make into several films to do proper justice to the unusually lengthy novel. However, the plan has changed, as it has now been reported that The Stand will be adapted into an eight-episode miniseries for Showtime, which will then culminate in a theatrical film. Stephen King fans might feel a sense of déjà vu here, as this was initially the plan for the proposed adaptation of the author’s Dark Tower series before that project fell apart. It is certainly an ambitious plan, since it requires a lot of extracurricular work from moviegoers, many of whom might not even have Showtime (presumably, the film itself will function as a stand-alone so as not to alienat...

Pennywise Has Been Cast For Stephen King's It

We're The Millers star to do a different kind of clowning around. By Brandon Wolfe The big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s It has found its Pennywise. The demonic clown will be portrayed by Will Poulter, who is perhaps best known from We’re The Millers . Poulter seems like a strange choice for the role, but a quick glance at his somewhat sinisterly structured face may be the key to understanding the decision. There’s something going on with the eyebrow/forehead region there that’s unsettling. It , which will be directed by True Detective ’s Cary Fukunaga and be split between two films, is the story of a group of children who confront a child-killing entity who often takes the form of a clown, only to have it return to plague them as adults. It was previously adapted into an equal-parts scary and hokey TV miniseries in 1990 with Tim Curry as Pennywise. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook .
