Movie Review: #Inferno

Can Tom Hanks and Ron Howard resurrect Robert Langdon in Inferno ? Review by Matt Cummings For a film series that inexplicably took seven years off, Dan Brown's controversial The da Vinci Code franchise - if it could be labeled that - it's assumed that the newest entry Inferno would come at us full of codes, history, and deep conspiracies. Unfortunately, we get a muddled mess that diminishes the main character's cryptographic genius and reminds us of a world that seems eerily similar to Brown's. Harvard professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) awakens in an Italian hospital with amnesia and deep cut on his head, prone to fits of horrifying visions about an oncoming apocalypse filled with historical themes and deadly characters. But before he gain his senses, he's instantly the target of a shadowy organization, forcing Doctor Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones) to assist with his escape. Langdon soon realizes that his possession of an ancient painting is a ...

Movie Review: 'Jurassic World'

The return of dinosaur destruction satisfies but doesn't sustain. Review by Matt Cummings WARNING: Major spoilers ahead. When Jurassic Park premiered in 1993, audiences were amazed at what eventually became the next great leap in CGI: believable prehistorics being chased by humans who effectively argued against man interfering with nature. Two disappointing sequels and two decades later, the sequel/retconned Jurassic World arrives, sparring no expense to return the franchise to respectability. And while it satisfies in the simplest way possible, its story gaps, good (not great) CGI, and decent performances keep it from wiping off the mud of its shunned brethren. After the disastrous events of Isla Nubar in the first film, The Disneyland-like world of Isla Nubar is now replete with happy genetically-spliced dinosaurs of every kind, creating a safe (if homogeneous) experience, with children riding mini-Triceratops and a Sea World-inspired demonstration of a Mosasau...

Chris Pratt Hanging With A Raptor In This New Jurassic World Image

But if you’re in the midst of making a film, you can call on some fun imagery. That’s just what Jurassic World ’s Colin Trevorrow has done for a new tweet . Yes, that’s Chris Pratt seemingly hanging with a raptor (whose name is not given, but we’d like to think is called Fiona) and if you've seen the first trailer for the film, you’ll know that in addition to Pratt’s Owen somehow being able to make a leather waistcoat work, he’s also a dino behavioral specialist who studies and works with raptors. “Don’t try this at home,” warns Trevorrow’s tweet. It's sound advice, since, like those who work with big cats or other predators, Owen knows that raptors are not your friends, no matter how closely you work with them. And Jurassic World will naturally provide another cautionary tale for those who think that to make money they can tamper with nature, as its set in a functioning Jurassic Park that looks to drum up business with a brand new dinosaur. First Look At #JurassicWorld

Jurassic World is finally just one year away. And to go along with that information, we now have some new images from the film, as provided to the AV Club . See all the images after the Jump.. With Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow marshalling both the humans and the dinosaurs, we know that Jurassic World is set years after Steven Spielberg’s original film, at a time when Jurassic Park is actually a functioning attraction situated on Isla Nublar. In fact, so well does it do its job that dinosaurs are almost commonplace. Chris Pratt plays a scientist doing behavioural research on the raptors (“let’s see what happens when we take away the puppy…”) when everything, in true Jurassic fashion, goes nuts again. Bryce Dallas Howard , meanwhile, will be more of a corporate type involved in the park, one that might just have to team up with Pratt when toothed menaces start stalking the place. Also featured? Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson , who also factor into...

New Trailer For The Amazing Spider–Man 2

Here is the second trailer for The Amazing Spider–Man 2 . We get our first look at the Green Goblin, The Rhino & Electro. The second film finds Peter embracing his superheroic side and finding the fun in Spidey, at least at first. There’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen ( Emma Stone ). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only he can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro ( Jamie Foxx ), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn ( Dane DeHaan ), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp. Please Leave A Comment-

New Images From The Amazing Spider–Man 2

Though it has stayed quiet recently as other big movies got their hype machines geared up, The Amazing Spider–Man 2 is ready to leap back into the game with a series of new images, a huge banner showing off some intriguing elements and a second trailer promised for Thursday. "I wanted to create something operatic, something huge,” Webb tells the paper’s site. “And if anything, this film is about the greatest battle Spider-Man's ever had to face. You'll understand and feel the intensity and the overwhelming nature of the obstacles in Spider-Man's path." The franchise’s Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield , also chimed in: "Our story deals a lot in choice. The power that you attain as a human being, it is your choice about what to do with it. And what's great about Spider-Man is he went from having no power, and the idea that absolute power corrupts absolutely, that is an incredibly rich idea to explore." Well, you know what they say about great pow...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Comic-Con Recap

There's been a big presence at this year's Comic-Con for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , but the press conference today with director Marc Webb, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach and stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan was the first real word on what the film has to offer. "The universe that we conceived of began before we started shooting the first movie," said Webb of the over-arching story, "but the primary focus was executing this movie as best we could. This is operatic. There's a hugeness of scale to this movie. The ensemble is extraordinary, but it's cohesive and direct, and there's a simple unifying theme at the heart of the film that I think will be impactful. But it's fun teasing other characters, and if you pay attention to this movie you'll see what we're setting up what might come next." He also discussed the film's take on new bad guy Electro, played by Jamie Foxx. "There are a lot of incarnat...

The Showdown. Electro VS Spider-Man

With Comic-Con now mere days away, the various movies set to make an appearance at the event are getting a start on pimping what audiences can expect. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is just one of the projects hitting the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue, with a proper first look at Jamie Foxx as Electro. Looking like a living plasma globe, Foxx certainly comes across as effective, even if the real test will be how the makeup works on film. Chances are we’ll get to judge that with some footage at the Con, and maybe even an early trailer hitting the web. Director Marc Webb, meanwhile, seems happy to have the birth pangs out of the way and relishes the chance to focus on the future. “People aren’t scared. With the first one I felt it was important to retell that origin story,” he says. “But that was kind of brutal because people were so familiar with it. Now that the origin story is done? We’re off to the races. It’s incredibly liberating.” We’re hoping that means a les...

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4 Are In The Works

We hope Andrew Garfield didn’t have too many movie roles planned for the next five years or so, because Sony wants to keep him in the Spidey suit for a while yet. Displaying the typical confidence of big studios in keeping their franchises swinging, the company has just announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will arrive on June 10, 2016 and the fourth on May 4, 2018. Yes, even though the second film – due to touch down here next year – isn’t finished and the reaction to the first wasn’t quite as positive as all involved likely hoped, nothing is stopping the superhero momentum. “ Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years,” said Sony marketing boss Jeff Blake in a statement. It’s also a sign of the studio wanting to wrangle those dates before anyone else can lock them down. So while we don’t yet know who will appear in the new movies, or...

First Image Of Jamie Foxx As Electro From THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Thanks to Superherohype , here are first pictures of Jamie Foxx lookin like a crazzy Smurf, literally, as the villain Electro on NY set of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN . Foxx   addressed his costumed appearance in the "Spider-Man" sequel. Though Electro is best remembered by comics fans for his tight green outfit with a jagged yellow mask, Foxx revealed that the "Amazing" sequel is ditching that classic look in exchange for something considerably more modern. "It won't be like that," Foxx said when asked about the character's costume from the comics. "Marc Webb and all of those guys, they're smart. They know that it has to make sense in 2013, so the suit is really slick. It's actually black. It's a new age." See all the images after the Jump... "I'm really excited about it," the actor added about his upcoming "Spider-Man" appearance. "My daughter is excited about it ...
