BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Samuel L. Jackson Playing Nick Fury in New Disney+ Series

Samuel L. Jackson is set to reprise the role of Nick Fury in a new Marvel series currently in development at Disney Plus, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.  The exact plot details of the show are being kept under wraps, but multiple sources say Jackson is attached to star with Kyle Bradstreet attached to write and executive produce. Like all the other Marvel shows at Disney Plus, Marvel Studios will produce. Jackson famously portrayed Fury, the monocular head of the clandestine government agency S.H.I.E.L.D, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going back to the post-credits scene in the first “Iron Man” film in 2008. He has appeared in multiple films within the MCU since, most recently portraying Fury in “Spider-Man: Far from Home,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Captain Marvel.” He also played the character in two episodes of the ABC series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” SPOILER ALERT:  The last time fans saw Fury was in the post-credits scene of “Far From Home,” where he wa...

#MarvelCollectorCorps Review: April 2016

It's a month of Marvel Movie Ass Whoopin', as Marvel Collector Corps delivers another exceptional sub box. Review by Matt Cummings With Loot Crate long gone and our faith in Geek Fuel going ebbing and flowing from month to month ), we're really enjoying the Funko runs of DC, Smuggler's Bounty, and of course Marvel Collector Corps. This month's CIVIL WAR theme is ready for next May's superhero throwdown, filled with excellent items but a couple that give us slight pause. The Promise Before we begin, let's look at the deal again: promising a value of $50, the box would keep the "fluff" (their words) to a minimum with Funko partnering each time to deliver an exclusive figure. Joining at the Founders level would get you an 8" exclusive figure on your one-year anniversary, but you can also subscribe at the Collector level at $25 with $6.95 shipping. With Year One Founders receiving a Captain America statue, it's clea...

(EXCLUSIVE): #BatmanvSuperman Takes a Huge Hit

Its second-week slide is one of the largest in history. Story by Matt Cummings Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice witnessed a monumental drop in its second week in theaters, marking it as one of the highest declines ever. At 68% (far higher than the traditional 60%), Warner Bros.' tentpole is starting to look like a misfire. After a strong domestic opening of $166m, the pundits were scratching their heads as to how a film with a "B" CinemaScore and a 29% Rotten Tomatoes rating could rake in that much cash. Additionally, Monday ($33m) and Tuesday ($15m) showed strong numbers, possibly indicating a backlash by audiences who wanted to see it for themselves. But as the week wore on, numbers began to decline rapidly, with Thursday offering just $7.7m. This weekend's decline places it with other not-so-great company, including 2015's Fantastic Four (68.2%) and X-Men: The Last Stand (66.9%) The whole free fall obviously should have WB and the Zack S...

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Opens to $180m

Why did the massively-hyped ultimately 'fail' at the box office? Story by Matt Cummings It goes without saying that Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron has the most hyped (and anticipated) film of the year so far. WIth a marketing campaign hitting every sector, it was an accepted fact that the superhero team-up follow-up would rake in big bucks in its opening weekend. And while it beat out Furious 7's massive opening, it failed to overtake its better brother. According to BoxOfficeMojo, Ultron opened to $187.7 million in 4,276 theaters in North America. That puts it #2 behind the all-time leader, 2012's The Avengers. Worldwide, the film has made a staggering $627 million in only 12 days, surpassing Captain America: The First Avenger ($371m), Thor ($449m), Iron Man ($583m) and Iron Man 2 ($622m). Back in The States, it was hoped that it could beat the $207.4m debut of the first Avengers : instead, it finished more than 9% behind. What Happened? S...

TV Review: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "One Door Closes"

Wherein Team Coulson won't just let the experts do their job. Review by Brandon Wolfe The conflict between the Real S.H.I.E.L.D. and Coulson’s fake one is one of the better gambits that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has yet attempted, even if the divide separating the show’s intentions and the audience’s (well, my) reception is substantial. The show is insisting that Edward James Olmos’ Gonzales and his agency are the antagonists of this story and that Coulson and his merry band of crybabies are still our white knights, yet from where I’m standing, Gonzales is completely in the right. When Gonzales points out that Coulson has been infused with alien DNA and has been used as a conduit for an alien race, making him an unreliable wild card, it’s hard to dispute any of it. Even Coulson himself doesn’t seem to be able to. But beyond Coulson’s alien-related unpredictability, the proof is in the pudding. We’ve seen him and his team in action and have witnessed first-hand their numerous l...

#AlienNation To Be Rebooted

THR is reporting Alien Nation , the late 1980s sci-fi movie produced by Gale Anne Hurd, is getting the remake treatment by Twentieth Century Fox. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, best known for their work on the first Iron Man movie, are writing the script for the project which at this stage has no producer on board. The original was set in a near future where humans and a race of aliens are forced to co-exist, tenuously, as humans keep the newcomers mostly segregated and without rights. The story then told of the first alien police officer who is paired with a racially insensitive partner. Soon, however, a case comes along that brings the two together in friendship and respect. Mandy Patinkin played the alien officer while James Caan was the reluctant partner. Fox released the original in 1988. It was successful enough that it led to a TV spinoff. The show lasted only one season but did lead to several TV movies. There were also Alien Nation novels and comic books. P...

Event Review: Marvel Universe Live!

The high-octane show is exciting for kids and a welcomed activity for dads. Review by Matt Cummings It's not often when dads can get into the event side of the familial outing. That's usually reserved for moms and shows like Disney on Ice. But with this weekend's showing of Marvel Universe Live! in Sacramento, dads can add a new activity that won't bore them to tears and might actually entertain along the way. When Thor destroys the Cosmic Cube, sending the fractals to distant parts of the the planet, Loki returns to re-assemble it in his quest for worldwide domination. To do so, he'll need a cast of Marvel's most fearsome villains: Red Skull, The Sinister Six, and A.I.M. But there's a little group called The Avengers, led by Captain America and Iron Man, who have put together their own team to stop them. Hawkeye, Thor, and Black Widow join Bruce Banner, Wolverine, and Spider-man as they race across the continent to find the fractals before ...

First Look: The A.T.O.M.

Arrow Producers Reveal The Latest Super Hero Costume Story by David Clark Former Superman Returns Brandon Routh is currently playing the role of Ray Palmer/ATOM on the CW show Arrow , a brainy scientist/corporate-type named for his superpower providing suit called an Advanced Technology Operating Mechanism - A.T.O.M. Truth be told, the Atom character has gone through multiple variations in the DC Comics universe. The original Atom was an awkward college student turned physicist with limited superpowers at best. Another version of the Atom appeared in the Suicide Squad comics as a minor character. The CW has selected a version of the character known as the Silver Age Atom. In the original lore, Ray Palmer became Atom when he discovered the fragments of a white dwarf star. He utilized those materials to fashion a technology which allowed the shrinking of his own body down to the subatomic level. Over time the character became less dependent upon technology and...

All The Marvel Easter Eggs In One Video

Before Marvel Studios came along, Easter eggs — or small lines or visual cues that are included in movies as nods to fans in the know — were few and unimportant. Stan Lee got his “ Spider-Man ” cameos, Wolverine joked that his suit wasn’t “yellow spandex,” and Lou Ferrigno was seen briefly in “ Hulk .” But with the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with “ Iron Man ” all the way through its newest release, “ Guardians of the Galaxy ,” Easter eggs have become an art. Sure, sometimes they’re still similar to the old ones — after all, Stan Lee still has had cameos in every MCU movie so far — but Marvel was the first studio to really ask its fans to rewatch, slow down, and magnify its movies to find all the secrets within, secrets which could be integral to the plot of future movies. Watch the clip after the Jump... Get More: Music News Captain America’s shield can be found in the first “Iron Man,” which at the time seemed like a throwaway, until we realiz...

Marvel's Comic Plans to Affect The Movies?

Read on to learn how Marvel's announcements mean bigger changes to the Cinematic Universe. This week's news of major changes within Marvel Comics are potentially bigger than those when the company relauched its comic series under the new banner Marvel Now! nearly two years ago. At that time, the shifting of writers, the introduction of new lines, and the re-positioning of characters like Rocket Raccoon and The Guardians of the Galaxy made their introduction into the Cinematic Universe possible. But as news this week of shake-ups for Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man were slowly rolled out on various television talk shows, two things became very apparent. Before getting into that, let's look at the changes themselves. On Monday, Marvel announced that Thor was losing his ability to wield Mjolnir, and that his power was being transferred to a woman. On Wednesday, The Colbert Report announced that Captain America will soon be replaced by The Falcon, as America...

Our Top 10 Marvel Films: 6-1

Our list concludes with Hammers, Shields , an Iron Dude , and an epic superhero mashup. We've been counting down our top 10 Marvel films, which wasn't an easy thing considering our conundrum at #6.  We even felt a little Green Rage Monster inside of us at having to decide.  But decide we did, and so here is the rest of our list.  Please read our full reviews under each number: 6-4: THREE-WAY TIE -   Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013)  Much like our bowels, our love for these three constantly shift.  We love FA because of its wholesome goodness wrapped in evil Red Skull-ness, as little Stevie Rogers becomes the ripped Avenger.  Director Joe Johnston even throws in a little Raider of the Lost Ark  reference as Hugo Weaving holds The Tesseract in his possession.  For Thor and Thor 2 , we love Loki and his high-jinks - Tom Hiddleston is Loki  in every way, embodying the desperat...
