July 4th is about to resurge. By Brandon Wolfe A webcast was held today to promote the upcoming sequel to Independence Day , which will be opening just over a year from now. At this event, director Roland Emmerich revealed the title of the film as Independence Day Resurgence . Also revealed was a synopsis of the film’s story: “Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction." Independence Day Resurgence will surge into theaters July 24, 2016. Once again, Will Smith will not be in this film

Actor will commit to three July 4ths. By Brandon Wolfe William Fichtner has been cast in a leading role in the forthcoming, currently filming Independence Day sequel. Deadline also drops the hint that there might be more Independence Day s yet ahead of us, as Fichtner has also been penciled in for two additional ID4 installments. Though there once existed talk that this project would take the form of back-to-back sequels shot simultaneously, that plan fell by the wayside. Perhaps the story in the hopper for the alien sequel is simply too mothership-sized for a single film to contain, but why Fox has decided to make Independence Day a full-throttle franchise now, rather than in 1999 when that made sense, is anybody's guess. Fichtner most recently appeared in last year's godawful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot (and will return for that film's presumably godawful sequel ). Roland Emmerich is directing the new ID4 .
