DreamWorks Animation Hits Hard Times

How Bad Are The Financial Troubles? Story by David Clark Ever since movies like Toy Story invaded theaters around the nation animation films have been a staple of the entertainment industry. They are the type of films that an entire family can sit down and enjoy together. They are often funny, clever, well written, and offer a little something for everybody. Names like Pixar, DreamWorks Animation, and Illumination Entertainment have been at the forefront of the animated style. This past week it has become apparent that one of the staple studios named Dreamworks Animation has fallen on difficult financial times. Do not tell the children, but the studio that brought the world Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon might be a distant memory in the next few years. Due to a series of box office disappointments DreamWorks Animation announced a downsizing operation that will see at least 500 employees laid off from all levels of the company. It was also announced that the c...

SandwichJohn's Top Ten Films Of 2010

Let's Agree To Disagree With the end of 2010 right around the corner, SandwichJohn thought why not come out with my first Top Ten list for the Films of 2010 . Now remember I haven't seen all the films that came out this year or most of the new releases. I have a family and a real life other than the site. So this is my Top Ten list. I'm for sure there are a few films you will disagree on and I haven't seen The Fighter, Black Swan or even True Grit , so they are not on my list. It makes life funner to stir shit up sometimes. With out further ado here is my list and enjoy the trailers. 10.  Knight & Day I know I am a Tom Cruise Homer, but I actually really enjoyed this movie. Knight and Day follows the adventures of Roy Miller (Tom Cruise), a spy on the run, and June Havens (Cameron Diaz), a car restorer. We see Miller watching Havens, and he bumps into her a couple of times as they go through security at Wichita Airport. Havens is making her way back hom...

Kung-Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon, Madagascar Sequels On Their Way

Kung-Fu Panda,  How To Train Your Dragon, & Madagascar Tons Of Sequels Coming Empire sat down with DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg this week in London, and asked him about the future of the company. But I thought we'd particularly draw your attention to what he had to say about planned animation sequels to Kung-Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon and more. Namely, that we're looking at a total of four Madagascar films, six Pandas (which was already rumoured) and at least three Dragons . "What our movies and our franchises also share in common with Shrek is that they have a beginning, a middle and an end; they’re not open-ended. Each of the films is a chapter of a story and in every instance we knew what that journey was or could be before we even started. "So today I can tell you pretty succinctly where Madagascar goes. Ultimately they will come back to New York, and they will come to terms with that, which they will do in this next ch...

How To Train Your Dragon 2 Arrives In 2013

How To Train Your Dragon 2 Arrives In 2013 DreamWorks Animation announced today during its First Quarter financial results that they will be making a sequel to the hit CGI animated film How To Train Your Dragon, and that it will be released in theaters in 2013. I was surprised when I saw this film, I took my daughter and had not interest in the film at all. But when I left the theaters I was praising the film and telling everyone I know that they need to go watch the film. The movie made $375 million dollars worldwide so far.So something is working for them. I just really hope that they don't kill the excitement of the film once they turn  it into a franchise film and not being able to come up with clever ideas for the next few films. Here is the official statement that was released, 2010 is off to a strong start, thanks in large part to the performance of How to Train Your Dragon which – having grossed nearly $375 million to date in worldwide box office – has become Dream...

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon"

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon" As of Sunday night I was pretty nervous that Kick-Ass lost the number one spot to "How to Train Your Dragon".  It looks like it was a close race but Kick-Ass ended up on top.  Not taking anything away from Dragon, which was a great film. If you haven't seen the movie you need to make a trip out to the theaters and spread the word. I am really hoping that word of mouth about this film will give this movie legs with all the new films coming out. Despite preliminary reports, "Kick-Ass" took home the top spot at the domestic box office. Grossing $19.8 million, Lionsgate's superhero action pic edged DreamWorks Animation's 3D kid pic, "How to Train Your Dragon" ($19.6 million) in a closely contested race.
