Rama is back with another reivew. This time he reviews JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS . May the gods of cinema forgive me, I can’t stop myself from enjoying JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS . Despite its imperfection and the fact that it’s pretty generic, this movie is charming and fun, and simply irresistible. We’ve danced this tango before, but the characters themselves are aware of the generic nature of it all, they embrace it, so I think that just spells out the word awesome. And make way for Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko , and Aurora Perrineau . These beautiful talented young ladies are going places! Universal Pictures is giving “ Jem and the Holograms ” fans a chance to appear in the upcoming teen-musical fantasy, with winners selected based on “Jem”-inspired videos posted on social channels. The studio launched the digital casting call at VidCon, the annual digital-video confab taking place this week in Anaheim, angling to attract YouTube stars to the contest. “Jem and the Holograms,” based on the ’80s animated TV series, is about a small-town girl who becomes a singing superstar. The goal: to produce a groundswell of user-generated content about “Jem” ahead of the movie’s Oct. 23 premiere, as effectively free publicity. Universal’s “ Star in Jem” contest is inviting anyone to post multiple videos of themselves singing or dancing to one of the songs from the movie (after downloading music from the site). Jon M. Chu is directing the film adaptation based on the popular '80s animated show. Fans of '80s pop culture, rejoice. Molly Ringwald has been cast in the adaptation of popular 1980s cartoon Jem and the Holograms. Directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay by Ryan Landels, the film will star Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples as Jem while Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko will play the Holograms, as THR exclusively reported. The film, based on the animated TV series that ran from 1985 to 1988, follows Jerrica Benton and her alter ego, Jem, who fronts the band the Holograms. It's being described as a modern take on the mysterious pop star, and will follow the band through Los Angeles on a music-driven adventure. Ryan Guzman will play Jem's love interest Rio, and Juliette Lewis also has a role in the film. In her first major film role, Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples has been cast as the lead, Jem, in the live-action Jem and the Holograms film, which is being directed by Jon M. Chu . The Holograms have also been cast: Stefanie Scott , who starred on Disney's A.N.T. Farm, will play Jem's sister, Kimber ; Pretty Little Liars actress Aurora Perrineau will play Shana ; and The Fosters' Hayley Kiyoko has been cast as Aja.
