Aliens Reunion Happening At Comic Con

July 18 will mark three decades since James Cameron’s Aliens was released in theaters — which is only a little over half the time Sigourney Weaver ’s Ripley spent in hypersleep after the nightmare events of 1979’s Alien . In Cameron’s sequel, she awoke to learn her old life was gone – and new life in the form of a pioneer colony had sprung up on the empty planet where she and the deceased crew of the Nostromo encountered the hyper-predatory Xenomorph. It was not enough time for the two species to learn to live in harmony. To commemorate the release of the 1986 action/sci-fi classic, EW can reveal that San Diego’s Comic-Con will host an Aliens reunion on Saturday, July 23. Both Cameron and Weaver will participate in the Q&A in the 6,500-seat Hall H, along with producer Gale Anne Hurd, Bill “Game Over” Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser, Michael Biehn, and the all-grown-up Carrie Henn . “That should be fun. Get the usual suspects back together,” Cameron says. Weaver sa...

#AlienNation To Be Rebooted

THR is reporting Alien Nation , the late 1980s sci-fi movie produced by Gale Anne Hurd, is getting the remake treatment by Twentieth Century Fox. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, best known for their work on the first Iron Man movie, are writing the script for the project which at this stage has no producer on board. The original was set in a near future where humans and a race of aliens are forced to co-exist, tenuously, as humans keep the newcomers mostly segregated and without rights. The story then told of the first alien police officer who is paired with a racially insensitive partner. Soon, however, a case comes along that brings the two together in friendship and respect. Mandy Patinkin played the alien officer while James Caan was the reluctant partner. Fox released the original in 1988. It was successful enough that it led to a TV spinoff. The show lasted only one season but did lead to several TV movies. There were also Alien Nation novels and comic books. P...

Gale Anne Hurd To Deliver Us An Area 51 TV Series

From zombies to aliens. The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and her Valhalla Entertainment have optioned Annie Jacobsen’s book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base for a potential TV series. The hourlong project, which will be taken out to the networks shortly, will be written by feature scribe Karl Gajdusek. It will follow two men working on the base who are thrust into danger when they uncover secrets that the government will protect at any cost. Gajdusek, who was brought in by Valhalla executive Beatrice Springborn, will serve as showrunner and executive produce with Hurd. Jacobsen will be a consulting producer. Jacobsen’s Area 51 sheds light on the highly classified military base, which has been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories claiming that it is home to aliens, underground tunnel systems, nuclear facilities or even the lunar landing, supposedly staged and filmed there. Jacobsen interviewed 19 men who served the bas...

Terminator Franchise Up For Sale?

Terminator Franchise Up For Sale? Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, who acquired the science-fiction franchise in 2007 for $25 million and produced this year's sequel " Terminator Salvation ," are looking to sell the rights as several companies owned by the two producers work their way through Chapter 11 reorganization. Since "The Terminator" was released in 1984, the franchise rights have changed hands frequently. When the first movie came out, production company Hemdale Films owned a 50% interest and director James Cameron sold the other half to producer Gale Anne Hurd for $1. Carolco Pictures, owned by producers Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna, bought Hemdale's stake in 1990 for $10 million and released "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" the next year. In 1997, after Carolco filed for bankruptcy, they started a new venture, C2 Pictures, which bought their old company's stake at auction for $8 million and the remaining 50% from Hurd for $7 millio...
