Sin City - A Dame to Kill For Review: Uninspired Overly-Sexualized Follow-up

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For knows what it wants, but utterly misses in its execution. The folly of returning to an old franchise nearly 10 years after it was made has proven to be difficult at best and disastrous at worst. Whether it's expectation or the passage of time, film series that see such lapses hardly ever work out. This year's 300: Rise of an Empire was engaging in its leads, but it failed to attract audiences who saw the original as their Holy Bible of Violence. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For only strengthens my theory that all series have a shelf life. Wrapping three stories of life in crime-ridden Sin City, we follow the further adventures of the bruiser Marv (Mickey Rourke), dancer Nancy (Jessica Alba), and anti-hero Dwight (Josh Brolin), as well as new ones by the gambler Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Some want money, others respect, and a couple just want to wash away their demons. But the city always throws up obstacles like Senator Roark (Power...

SIN CITY & HONG KONG COLLIDE IN A LIMITED-EDITION VINYL FIGURE OF Marv!

SIN CITY AND HONG KONG COLLIDE IN A LIMITED-EDITION VINYL FIGURE FROM FRANK MILLER AND ERIC SO! The masters of two mediums come together with an all-new, limited-edition vinyl figure of Sin City’s beloved brute, Marv! This unique interpretation of Marv was created by Eric So, a master of modern design and a leader in the Hong Kong designer-toy movement. With the guidance of Frank Miller , So has sculpted a thirteen-inch vinyl figure that is unlike any that has come before it. While best known for his groundbreaking toy designs, Eric So is also an accomplished designer in many other areas, such as men’s fashion and accessories. He is a legend in his native Hong Kong, and has made a name for himself worldwide. In the same spirit as his previous collaboration with Dark Horse (a vinyl figure of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy) or his Nike-commissioned statue of Michael Jordan, So favors a humorous and cartoonish approach over realism. While Marv is depicted in his customary trench coa...

Josh Brolin Joins Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

With the cameras cranking and the blue/green screens up, casting announcements for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For are coming thick and fast. Yesterday brought word that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been cast in a new character role. Now that has been followed with the news that Josh Brolin and Christopher Meloni are aboard. Brolin , it seems, will be bringing his recent, MIB III-showcased expertise at playing characters in their younger days for the film, as he’s signed on to take over Dwight from Clive Owen . Dwight’s story in Dame is a prequel tale that sees him hunted down by Ava Lord, the only woman he ever loved. His life goes into the gutter and he ends up with a completely different face later in life (hence the actor swap). “Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and A Dame To Kill For is a defining episode in his life,” Rodriguez and Miller said in a statement picked up by Collider . “We’re looking forward to Josh’s ...

The Departed Screenwriter Joins Sin City 2

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are bringing in some Oscar-winning firepower to help shape the script for Sin City 2 , the sequel to their 2005 hit graphic novel adaptation. William Monahan , who won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for 2006’s The Departed , has been hired to work on the script, according to sources, supplementing a draft completed recently by Miller. Momentum has been building lately behind the long-in-development sequel to Sin City , which grossed a healthy $100 million worldwide in 2005. Rodriguez, who co-directed the original with Miller (who scripted and authored the source material), said at Comic-Con in July that financing for the sequel had been arranged and shooting would begin as soon as a script could be locked, possibly by the end of this year. It’s not clear which actors would return from the original, though rumors on fan websites have suggested a storyline featuring the characters played by Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba . Rodriguez indic...

"The Dark Knight Rises" To Be Last Batman Film For Bale or Not?

"The Dark Knight Rises" To Be Last Batman Film For Bale or Not? MTV News recently sat down with Bruce Wayne himself, Christian Bale , was asked whether the next film will indeed be his last, Bale seemed fairly sure that this will be his final turn as Bruce Wayne — though it will all depend on Nolan's plans in the end. "I think so. That's up to Chris," he said. "That was always what the discussion was. But you know, if Chris says, 'I see another story here,' then we'll be up for it. But in my mind, I'm expecting this will be it." Joking that it might be best to wait 20 years and come back for an adaptation of Frank Miller's classic Batman tale " The Dark Knight Returns ," Bale said it "would not be bad" to play the older, grizzled version of Gotham's protector. Finally, Bale told MTV News he believes "The Dark Knight Rises" will begin shooting in May, though he's not sure what — if an...

Liev Schreiber Wants To Return For Wolverine 2

Liev Schreiber Wants To Return For Wolverine 2 At the press conference for the upcoming film "Repo Men" in New York, Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth) talked about the upcoming Wolverine sequel and if Victor would be making a return to my Motherland Japan for the sequel. I just had dinner with [Hugh Jackman] last night and read the first draft of the script and I was really excited about it. It's still not clear whether or not Victor will be present in the Japan storyline. In the Japan storyline as I remember it from the Wolverine comics, Victor wasn't there. So I don't know, of course I've got my fingers crossed because I love the character so much, to have the chance to do it again would be a lot of fun, but I'm not sure. Wolverine 2 Script Is Done And Ready To Head To Japan

Wolverine 2 Script Is Done And Ready To Head To Japan I actually didn't hate the first film as much as a lot of fans of Wolverine. I mean of course there were holes in the movie that didn't follow the comic book but overall a descent movie in my opinion. And looks like the script for the second film is done and ready to go. At this time no director has been signed to the film. I am sure they will not have a problem finding someone. The script was based on Frank Miller and Chris Claremont Story cycle of the Wolverine story when he heads to my motherland looking for adventures in martial arts will be a love story featuring a Japanese actress, I am told. “It’s a beautiful story,” says a source, “and will be very different than the first film.” The script was written by Christopher McQuarrie of “X-Men” and “Valkyrie” fame.
