After tackling the world of illegal street racing in Fast 8, Scott Eastwood is switching to Hollywood's sci-fi lane. The actor, who is poised for a breakout year with a string of high-profile projects scheduled for 2017, is set to star in Wayne Kramer's Ecstasia . He will be joined by Italian actress Matilda Lutz (The Rings) as a couple who live in a world where love no longer exists during their final days together before their love expires. Kramer (The Cooler, Running Scared) also wrote the screenplay. Variety is reporting Scott Eastwood has joined the ensemble of “ Fast 8 ,” the next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Eastwood joins Charlize Theron , who will portray a new antagonist. The latest installment begins production this summer with a planned April 14, 2017, release. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez will reprise their roles, with F. Gary Gray taking over the directing reins. Neil Moritz and Diesel will produce. Though she had only been in talks up to this point, waiting to see a finished script, Charlize Theron has officially signed on to play the big bad going up against Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto in Fast 8 . Theron will actually be playing in the new Fast & Furious entry, and rumors had pinned her as a potential new member of the nasty Shaw family (previous siblings including Luke Evans ' Owen and Jason Statham's Deckard). But it sounds like she's just going to be a powerful, dangerous woman who has great influence in the criminal underworld. It would be fun to see the new movie shot almost completely from her point of view, a la Mad Max: Fury Road, but that probably won't work in terms of the Fast films' usual focus.
