Over a 70+ year career, Rita Moreno defied both her humble upbringing and relentless racism to become a celebrated and beloved actor, one of the rare EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) Award Winners of our time. Born into poverty on a Puerto Rican farm, Moreno and her seamstress mother immigrated to New York City when Moreno was five years old. Some movies arrive fully formed, with a script written and actors already attached, primed and ready to shoot. Others come together a little more slowly, piece by piece. A new example of the latter is workplace comedy 24-7 , which is being set up for Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington to star. The idea began life as a pitch by writer Sara Rothschild, though the details are being kept quiet as to what the plot will feature for now. But the idea of a workplace comedy with two recognizable female leads already offers potential overtones of 1980's 9 To 5, set in the era of zero hours contracts and workplaces that, while there have been big steps in equal treatment and pay, still have a fair way to go. Longoria and Washington will both be producers on the film, now starting its journey through the development chambers en route to trying to lock down a director.
