Robert Rodriguez In Talks To Direct Escape From New York Remake

The attempt to make a new version of John Carpenter's cult action movie Escape From New York has been dragging on for more than a decade, tossed between different studios and filmmakers like a hot potato. 20th Century Fox is aiming to get closer than ever, with Robert Rodriguez working on a deal to direct. 1991's Escape, one of Carpenter's collaborations with leading man Kurt Russell, saw the actor playing the iconic Snake Plissken, a gruff, one-eyed tough guy convict in a futuristic world (well, 1997) who is offered a deal: rescue the president, whose plane has crashed in New York, and which has become a maximum security prison. The catch? If he fails, he's been fitted with a bomb that will be detonated... Fox nabbed the rights to the remake back in 2015 and Luther's Neil Cross is still attached to write the script, though Rodriguez will probably do his own pass if it all works out. According to Deadline, the plan is for the new Escape to kick off a franchise

Flash Gordon Film-Will It Ever Happen?

Flash Gordon Film-Will It Ever Happen? Following the release of "The Crazies" earlier this year, director Breck Eisner's next project could be a remake of John Carpenter's "Escape from New York." However, Eisner recently extended his option for Alex Raymond's classic sci-fi comic strip " Flash Gordon ," with an eye towards directing it down the line. "'Flash Gordon' is a total passion project for me," said Eisner during an interview with Fearnet. "We've just extended the option and the studio's very committed in trying to make it happen." "It's just a gigantic 3D experience with years of prep," continued Eisner. "It’s one of those movies you get once in a lifetime to make and for me it's been a passion of mine since I was a kid. If I could pick and just control everything I would love to make 'Flash Gordon,' it's really kind of my dream job, but it's multi-year, in

Snake Plissken To Stay a 'Bad-Ass.'" In Reboot Sure you are tried of hearing the same old news, another reboot. Well sorry to tell you they are going to reboot the classic John Carpenter film Escape From New York. New Line Cinema is quickly moving forward thanks to a rewrite from Allan Loeb, the man who rescued the Wall Street sequel from development limbo over at Fox. A big reason for the fast track was creative: Loeb nailed the humor in Plissken without slipping into camp, and he changed Snake’s rescue-mission target from a president to a female senator, thereby upping the banter quotient. But just as big a factor was economic: They found a much cheaper way to turn Manhattan into a giant prison. And more importantly, good ol' Snake remains largely the same. Legally, he has to be. We learned that in order to land the rights, New Line had to sign a contract with John Carpenter stipulating, among other things, that Plissken "must be called 'Snake'";
