The Equalizer Movie - What We Know (Conclusion)

Our Equalizer introduction wraps up with the episodes you must watch before seeing the movie. Our discussion of all things The Equalizer concludes with a look at some of the best episodes of the series. As audiences prepare to see Director Antoine Fuqua's vision for the 1980's iconic television series The Equalizer , all this week we're looking back at the characters, episodes, and other aspects of the show that helped to define it. In our final article, we'll discuss several memorable episodes, and explain how some of their themes could fit into the film's storyline. The Equalizer originally aired on CBS from 1985-1989 and was part of a series of new dramatic offerings that looked inside the world of spycraft and beyond the stylized Roger Moore James Bond movies. While shows like Scarecrow and Mrs. King used spies as a means to drive the romantic storyline, The Equalizer took a darker path, emphasizing the personal cost our heroes pay for defending o

The Equalizer Movie - What We Know (Part 2)

Our Equalizer introduction continues with a look at various members of Robert McCall's team. As audiences prepare to see Director Antoine Fuqua's vision for the 1980's iconic television series The Equalizer, all this week we'll be taking a look back at the characters, episodes, and other aspects of the show that helped to define it. We'll continue with a discussion of McCall's television allies, and how some could fit into the film's storyline. Mickey Kostmayer Kostmayer is McCall's right-hand man, responsible for running surveillance and brought the heavy weapons when needed. Kostmayer was nearly fired from The Company for his impetuousness before McCall molded him into a lethal asset. His work with McCall was always under the scrutiny of Control, who worried about using Company assets on 'small jobs.' But as we'll see, Control and McCall battled over just about everything. Adding Mickey to the mix would be like McCall calling

The Equalizer Movie: What We Know (Part 1)

We prepare for the imminent arrival of the movie by looking back at several aspects of the influential television series. As audiences prepare to see Director Antoine Fuqua's vision for the 1980's iconic television series The Equalizer , all this week we'll be taking a look back at the characters, episodes, and other unique aspects of the show that re-defined the spy genre for the Cold War generation. We'll start with a discussion of the original television plot, comparing it to what we know of the movie adaptation. Television Plot Robert McCall is a British former spy who worked for a CIA-type agency called The Company. He was one of their most experienced and decorated agents, until an op went bad and he resigned. Now living in New York City, McCall helps people in need via a newspaper ad: " Odds against you? No one to turn to? Call the Equalizer." But his old life is never too far away, as he battles the KGB, his old boss Control, an

Our Equalizer introduction continues with a look at Robert McCall's 'tools of the trade' as well as the soundtrack. As audiences prepare to see Director Antoine Fuqua's vision for the 1980's iconic television series The Equalizer, all this week we'll be taking a look back at the characters, episodes, and other aspects of the show that helped to define it. Just like James Bond, the 'character bible' behind Robert McCall is filled with unique bits that separated him from the casual city vigilante or cop-on-the-edge figure. We'll continue with a discussion of McCall's 'tools of the trade' as well as the show's music, and see how some of it could fit into the film's storyline. Walther PPK A necessary part of any top spy's toolbox, this stylish weapon was always at McCall's side and probably recorded more kills than anyone in television. We don't know if Actor Denzel Washington will carry one in the movie versio

Russell Crowe To Star In A "The Equalizer" Movie

Russell Crowe To Star In A "The Equalizer" Movie I remember this show as a kid watching it with my father, it was one of the few shows we got to watch in Japan living on base. And with all the 80's television shows  being developed into films, why not another television show from that era. Russell Crowe is attached to star in the role  Edward Woodward made famous. The actor has attached himself to play Robert McCall , the mysterious agent made famous by Woodward in the 1980s CBS crime series. Fans of the series will remember that McCall's background was murky -- he once worked for a top-secret agency, where he did some pretty horrible things -- and we watched him every week in his new, repentance-minded guise, righting wrongs for the persecuted by settling scores with their persecutors (and assorted miscreants). Mired for years in development at the Weinstein Co., the cinematic reimagining of "The Equalizer" now is with a group of high-level producers
