Dimension Films has tapped Stephen Leff, John Aboud (The Comebacks) and Michael Colton (The Comebacks) to pen Scary Movie 5 , the latest entry in the horror spoof franchise that kicked off in 2000 under the direction of the Wayans brothers , and grossed nearly $300 million worldwide. Bloody Disgusting is being told that Dimension is hoping to bring back stars Anthony Anderson (Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Scream 4), Regina Hall (Scary Movie 1-4) and Kevin Hart (Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Superhero Movie), who have all appeared in multiple franchise sequels. Offers have been made, although nothing has been signed yet. No word on if David Zucker is directing. Let's hope not. There have been a wide variety of rumored cast members ranging from Anna Faris to Hulk Hogan , with an October 2009 report claiming the franchise would be remade. With a budget of $24 million to make, and opening to $10 million at the weekend boxoffice Dimension has announced it’s working on “ Piranha 3D - The Sequel .” The company didn’t go into details as to whether or not director Alexandre Aja would return or if any writers had been hired to pen the script, but producer Mark Canton will be back. “We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving ' Piranha 3D ,' but cheering for it,” said Canton in the announcement. “And it's fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. Lauren Graham 's role was so reduced that she dropped out of the project, and now it appears that Hayden Panetierre's part has changed as well... and who's at fault may surprise you. We have learned that the slasher flick's script is now in the hands of Ehren Kruger , not the creator of the franchise, Kevin Williamson . And while some may say that H2’s $32 million was okay, in comparison with the movie’s $15 million budget, but that didn’t include prints and advertising, which, was at minimum, that much all over again.
