Buddy-cop threequel is what Joe’s gonna do. By Brandon Wolfe Bad Boys is essentially the Before Sunrise of action-comedy franchises, given the unusual length of time between each installment. The original came out a whopping 20 years ago. Its sequel followed eight years after that. And now, after all this time, a third film is just now starting to come together. A script has been written by David Guggenheim, who wrote Safe House , and Sacramento’s own Joe Carnahan, director of The Grey , is in talks to direct. The sequel hopes to reunite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. Sony intends to push the project very quickly into development so that it could potentially fill the slot Smith will have open immediately following the currently-shooting Suicide Squad .
