BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Snake Eyes Film Has Found It's Director

THR is reporting Robert Schwentke , who directed two installments of the Divergent sci-fi action movie series, has been tapped to helm Paramount’s G.I. Joe spinoff pic centering on the popular character Snake Eyes . Evan Spiliotopoulos, the writer of 2017's Beauty and the Beast and 2016's The Huntsman: Winter’s War , penned the script, and Brian Goldner is among those producing the feature based on the Hasbro toy line. Snake Eyes is the silent ninja commando that first appeared in the 1980s as part of Hasbro and Marvel Comics’ relaunch of the toy line, dubbed G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. The character, who dresses in all black, never reveals his face and never speaks, stood out among the military anti-terrorist group and quickly established himself as the most popular. He had a special relationship with Scarlett, for a while the team’s only female member, and sometimes carried out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber. His sworn enemy is Storm Shadow, a ninja who...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Crosses The 1 Billion Mark

Beginning the year with a box office story that should surprise nobody, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has owned Christmas and New Year in theaters, and has blasted through the $1 billion barrier after only three weeks on release. Its total up to New Year's Eve was $1.040 billion, with half of that coming from the States, and the UK top of the other worldwide territories with $91.5m. That makes it the number one release of 2017 in the US, and the 24th biggest film of all time globally. But it's actually only the third biggest film of 2017 at the moment, with Fast & Furious 8 ($1,235.8) and Beauty And The Beast ($1,263.5) still to catch. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle had a good weekend too, coming in second at the US box office this last weekend with $50.6m, taking it to a two-week total of $169.8m. That's a surprisingly big haul for a quasi-sequel to an elderly Robin Williams movie, but warm reviews and its likeable cast have clearly made it a light and easygoing famil...

The Fate Of The Furious Kills It At The Box Office

Every time a new entry in the increasingly physics-free Fast & Furious movie series arrives, there are those who ask why "they" keep making "these things". The fact that the latest – the eighth – just made $100.1 million at the American box office alone in its first weekend – might provide some sort of answer. The studio estimates put Fast & Furious 8 (or The Fate Of The Furious , as it is known in the US), on a healthy path to another big box office win for the franchise. And with more than $432 million earned elsewhere in just this opening weekend salvo for a $532.4 million start globally, you really don't have to wonder why they are viewing this one as the kick-off to a new trilogy within the long-running set of movies. As for the rest of Hollywood, they have long since learned to get out of the way of Dom Toretto, Luke Hobbs and the rest, and there were no other wide releases in the US this weekend. The other movies arriving were limited to the ...

#BeautyAndTheBeast Opens HUGE

The tale might be as old as time, but the new take on Beauty And The Beast – the latest Disney live-action adaptation from its cartoon back catalog – stormed the US box office with a record-breaking $170 million opening, according to studio estimates. That represents a new high for a March opening and solidifies the recent success of the Mouse House, especially given that the movie cost $160 million to make before the usual marketing and print costs. No doubt Disney will be hoping for another billion-dollar baby, and given that the movie is already on $350 million worldwide after one week of release, it's not impossible. Kong: Skull Island had to clamber down to second place, falling $52.7% for $28.8 million and crossing the $100 million mark. That meant Logan was pushed to third and $17.5 million, though the gritty superhero movie is approaching $500 million worldwide after just a couple of weeks. Horror pic Get Out continues to perform, earning $13.2 million this weeken...

Movie Review: #BEAUTYANDTHEBEAST Gorgeous!

Gorgeous! RAMA delivers another review. To say that Disney’s live action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST movie is better than the 1991 animated classic may be a bit of a stretch. But this is as dazzling, enchanting and marvelous as today’s digital visual effects can offer you. I think despite the obvious autotune effort, Emma Watson does a good job of carrying the legacy; portraying my favorite Disney princess ever, the most gorgeous bookworm in the land, Belle. This remake basically takes everything you loved about the previous version and makes it significantly seem more jubilant, like a big broadway celebration. Directed by Bill Condon, based on the 1991 animated film, the screenplay for this one is written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopouous, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST comes to life in this cinematic journey of a bright independent young woman, Belle, who takes the place of her imprisoned father in a castle inhabited by the beast and his porcelain staff. In time, Belle befriends t...
