Battlestar Galactica Film In The Works

Sometimes, as the saying goes, you have to roll a hard six. Universal is doing just that with a movie version of Battlestar Galactica , a prospect that’s been bubbling under for some years and, according to Deadline, is finally coming together. Lisa Joy, writer on HBO’s new take on Westworld, is on board to write it with The Hunger Games ’ Francis Lawrence likely to direct. Battlestar Galactica, as devotees of the Ronald D. Moore’s seminal remake series will know, follows the survivors of a human civilisation through the outer reaches of space as they attempt to evade a Cylon fleet hellbent on exterminating them to reach a new home. Originally the brainchild of Glen A. Larson in the late ‘70s, its most recent incarnation offered powerful allegories about post-9/11 America, the erosion of civil liberties and cloning, not to mention some frackin’ epic space battles with Cylon toasters. Expect any movie version worth its salt to offer plenty more. There’s been plenty of other atte

Battlestar Galactica Movie Gets New Life

The project at Universal is apparently moving forward.  By: Matt Cummings If you caught the SyFy run of Battlestar Galactica , you were treated to something special. Complete with graying loyalties and intense action, the series followed a race of humans defeated by the technologically superior Cylons. The series brought a grittiness and unpredictability that kept fans watching right up to the lame series finale in 2007. Apparently, someone took notice. According to multiple sources, Universal is developing a film reboot of the series, and have hired Transcendence writer Jack Paglen to script the screenplay. Paglen is also involved in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel for Fox that starts production this fall.  Transcendence  starring Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall opens on April 18th. Original Galactica creator Glen Larson will produce the reboot. While we're happy to see this happening in concept, we'll wait to hear about a director and cast before we render a j

Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class

Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class Now that he's officially signed to develop and direct the film, Bryan Singer has begun to talk - at least, to drop hints - about mutant prequel pic X-Men: First Class. Singer admitted that while he couldn't talk specifically about the story (it's still a secret), he could lock down what part of the X-story it would cover. "It’s basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto." And since it'll borrow elements from Eric Lensherr's longer life, it's even more likely that the Magneto origin movie will be shoved back on the schedule as Fox concentrates on this. "This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust." But even First Class wi

Bryan Singer's Battlestar Galactica Movie In Pre-Production?

Bryan Singer's Battlestar Galactica Movie In Pre-Production The Reboot of Battlestar Galactica the series aired on the Sci-Fi Channel (it's SyFy these days) for 4 seasons (2004-2009), and was re-imagined by Ronald D. Moore and David Erick. The series won several Emmy's over the years , a Peabody Award, and TV Critics Choice award. Now it seems that director/producer Bryan Singer is teaming up with Larson to make a Battlestar Galactica movie for the big screen, ditching and dissing the fan favorite Ronald Moore version. It seems that Larson was not a big fan of the Moore reboot, and wants to develop the original version of Galactica, keeping the original premise and storyline, making it more action oriented, geared for adults. Singer had originally intended to remake the original series for the small screen back in 2000, but the director was distracted by other endeavors and the project stalled. That's when Moore took over. Now that pre-production has started, any rumor
