#Itmovie Is Back On Top

Despite his usual power at the box office, Tom Cruise could not overcome a resurgent, scary clown as It rose from the sewer once more to regain the chart's crown in the States after being knocked down last weekend by those Kingsman . The horror movie added $17.3 million to its total, according to studio estimates. The Cruiser's latest, sort-of-true crime tale American Made , wasn't far behind, earning $17.06 million, so there's a slim chance things could change when the final figures come in on Monday. But it appears It has lost none of its drawing power, and that it's not finished snapping records. American Made made do with second place, while Kingsman: The Golden Circle slipped to third on $17 million. The Lego Ninjago Movie actually moved up a place this weekend, earning $12 million. Tom Cruise is at his best in American Made . And he never throws a punch. Review by Matt Cummings If many elements behind the biopic American Made feel way too familiar (title cards at the end, news footage, doctored photos showing our hero rubbing elbows), you might also find yourself doing the unthinkable: forgiving Director Doug Liman and Actor Tom Cruise. This is easily one of the best biopic films of the year, fueled by an all-out performance by Cruise, bolstered by a highly stylized feel, and filled with just enough levity to offset what soon becomes a very nasty and gripping affair.
