Movie Review: #CollateralBeauty

The wholly unethical Collateral Beauty is a manipulative affront to common decency. WARNING: Massive Spoilers Ahead Review by Matt Cummings If you've ever lost a child or experienced the tragic death of someone, Collateral Beauty is supposed to offer a cathartic means for release and reflection. Unfortunately, it also tries to play with our emotions while manipulating its lead through wholly unethical means, only to learn that angels like money too. And for that ultimate of movie sins, it earns my pick as one of the worst movies of the year. Having endured the death of his 7 year old daughter due to brain cancer, Howard (Will Smith) is now a broken man. His ad agency, one of the most respected in New York, is on the brink of being sold, while Howard writes angry letters to Death, Time, and Love. He mails them, hops on his bike, and then proceeds to his job, only to build complex domino structures while his partners (Kate Winslet, Michael Pena, and Edward Norton) ...

Allan Loeb To Develop "Bob The Musical" For Disney

The musical comedy will include music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the duo behind the tunes of Disney’s animation breakout "Frozen." Allan Loeb has been tapped to work on Bob the Musical , Disney’s long-gestating musical comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Bob follows a regular guy who, after a blow to the head, suddenly can hear the inner songs of everyone’s heart as his reality is instantly turned into a musical, much to his dismay. The project has been in development since 2004 and has seen several writers, composers and directors come and go, including Adam Shankman and 21 Jump Street duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller. But producers Chris Bender, J.C. Spink and Jake Weiner of Benderspink, as well as Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are still pushing forward with the high-concept project, which now has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the duo behind the tunes of Disney’s animation breakout Froze...

Kevin James Is A UFC FIghter

Kevin James To Enter The Octagon If you follow or watch the UFC then you have seen Kevin James at many of the fights. It looks like he will be entering the octagon very soon. Sony made a deal to have James star in an untitled Mixed Martial Art comedy that will start production next year. The script will be written by Allan Loeb (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) which should be interesting. James is attached to play a physics teacher whose school faces drastic cutbacks. In an attempt to save his best friend's job and the music program his students love, he moonlights in the octagon as a mixed martial arts fighter, ultimately leading to brawling in the UFC. Bradley Cooper Sent To The Minors

Bradley Cooper Sent To The Minors Disney has snagged an untitled baseball pitch from " Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps " scribe Allan Loeb with Bradley Cooper attached to star. Andrew Panay is on board to produce with Loeb and his Scarlet Fire Entertainment partner Steven Pearl. The dramedy centers on a baseball player who gets injured and has to go back to the minors where the only place he can find lodging is in a senior citizens' home. There, he meets an old baseball guru who helps lead him back. Panay concocted the idea with his Panay Films development exec Adam Blum. Panay then took it to Pearl and Loeb as the trio had been looking for something to partner on. Loeb, whose career has been on fire since writing "Money Never Sleeps," took to the idea and carved time in his busy schedule to develop and create the story. The project is said to be in the vein of "Scent of a Woman" and "The Rookie," the latter an inspirational sports ...

Kevin James And Vince Vaughn Best Buds

Kevin James And Vince Vaughn Best Buds We reported last month about this film coming out. and now we have more news about the upcoming film and who will star with Vaughn. Ron Howard is setting Kevin James to play Vince Vaughn’s best friend in the untitled Universal Pictures comedy about infidelity. The film is Howard’s next directing vehicle from a screenplay by Allan Loeb. Howard and Imagine partner Brian Grazer are prepping a spring start in Chicago. Kevin and Vince will play best friends and business partners, and Vaughn is tortured when he observes his pal’s wife getting intimate with another man. Should he tell? The comedy came from an idea by Grazer, who’ll produce with Vaughn and the actor's Wild West Picture Show banner. Imagine’s Kim Roth is executive producer. The buddy system has made for a nice transition for James after his long-running TV sitcom King of Queens. He paired with Will Smith in Hitch and Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. After carryin...

Snake Plissken To Stay a 'Bad-Ass.'" In Reboot

Snake Plissken To Stay a 'Bad-Ass.'" In Reboot Sure you are tried of hearing the same old news, another reboot. Well sorry to tell you they are going to reboot the classic John Carpenter film Escape From New York. New Line Cinema is quickly moving forward thanks to a rewrite from Allan Loeb, the man who rescued the Wall Street sequel from development limbo over at Fox. A big reason for the fast track was creative: Loeb nailed the humor in Plissken without slipping into camp, and he changed Snake’s rescue-mission target from a president to a female senator, thereby upping the banter quotient. But just as big a factor was economic: They found a much cheaper way to turn Manhattan into a giant prison. And more importantly, good ol' Snake remains largely the same. Legally, he has to be. We learned that in order to land the rights, New Line had to sign a contract with John Carpenter stipulating, among other things, that Plissken "must be called 'Snake'"; ...

Vince Vaughn To Star In A Dark Comedy Directed By Ron Howard

Vince Vaughn To Star In A Dark Comedy Directed By Ron Howard The studio is putting the pieces together for a film project exploring the subject of infidelity that will be directed by Ron Howard and star Vince Vaughn. Imagine topper Brian Grazer came up with the idea and is producing with Vaughn, who will produce with his Wild West Picture Show Prods. Allan Loeb wrote the currently untitled script, which would go before cameras in the spring. The story follows a man who learns that his best friend's wife is cheating and must then navigate treacherous waters to decide what do with that knowledge. The project is said to continue Vaughn's interest of tackling the dark areas of relationships, which he did with "The Break-Up" and, to a lesser extent, "Couples Retreat," which ended up leaving its darker moments on the editing room floor. The script is said to walk a fine line of being comedy and drama, much like "Break-Up" did. Please Leave A Comment- Sou...

Dude Looks Like a Lady-Ryan Reynolds To Cross Dress

Dude Looks Like a Lady-Ryan Reynolds To Cross Dress Ryan Reynolds, your 11th sexiest man alive, is set to cross-dress in his next as-yet untitled comedy. The sometime-Deadpool and soon-to-be Green Lantern will be donning dress and mascara to win his ex back, in one of the more unusual dating strategies we've heard. In a plot that sounds suspiciously like Mrs Doubtfire with the children removed (or Some Like It Hot without any gangsters or millionaires), the cross-dressing will be allowing Reynolds' dude-y character to befriend the ex who dumped him and hopefully win her back (our prediction: not that easy, but Life Lessons will be learned before the happy ending). It's all being written by Allan Loeb, the 21 and Wall Street 2 screenwriter, and produced by Working Title. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Empire
