Ridley Scott is returning to the futuristic world of Blade Runner , his iconic 1982 film, for a new feature for Warners-based Alcon Entertainment. Adapted from Philip K. Dick’s story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?,” Scott’s original film -- with its mix of rainy, neon-lit exteriors, its human-like androids call replicants, and its shadowy, controlling corporation -- established a template for dystopian views of the future. In 2007, it was named the second most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society. While the new movie is being described as a “follow-up” to the first film, the filmmakers have not yet disclosed whether it will function as a prequel or a sequel to the original. Eddie Murphy , who's lent his distinctive voice to the character of Donkey in the four Shrek movies, is taking on another animated character, Hong Kong Phooey , in a film of the same name based on the Hanna-Barbera animated TV series from the ‘70s about a dog who becomes a kung fu crime fighter. The property revolves around a dog, Penry, to be played by Murphy, who is granted mystic powers, including the ability to walk, talk and do kung fu. Donning a costume to become Hong Kong Phooey, he sets out to combat criminals. Scatman Crothers provided the character’s voice in the TV series. The 1982 cult classic, which was directed by Ridley Scott and starred Harrison Ford , was based on a Philip K. Dick novel titled Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep . The company is in final negotiations to acquire the secure film, television and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic 1982 science-fiction thriller. Alcon is getting the film rights from Bud Yorkin, who was an exec producer on the original 1982 movie. To be precise, the film finished the frame with a cume of $208.5 million in its seventh week in release. Over the weekend, it rose a remarkable 10% over the previous week, and it's still got plenty of life left, according to Warner Bros. prexy of domestic distribution Dan Fellman. "Blind Side" was fully financed and produced by Alcon Entertainment. The project was brought in by Molly Smith, daughter of Alcon backer Fred Smith, founder of FedEx. It's hard to believe, but none of the previous films in which Bullock had top solo billing had reached $200 million, nor have any of the solo starring efforts of the likes of Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie or Reese Witherspoon.
