Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive. Movie Review: 'Black Mass'

Is the slow-burn gangster flick Black Mass worthy of recent Oscar talk? Read on to find out! Review by Matt Cummings For all the hype that 2015 has promised in terms of box office performance, we've experienced very little in the way of Oscar contenders. Usually, that arrives in October and barrels through Christmas with all the elegance of a load hauler. In a year that's seen more Oscar bait than catch, Black Mass arrives with a bat, a gun, and a terrific performance by Depp who feels like he's about to use both on us. James “Whitey” Bulger (Depp) is everything that encompasses a good Boston gangster: a receding hairline and sharp steely eyes that give nothing away as to how vicious a leader he really is. Starting in 1975, Bulger begins his rise as leader of the Winter Hill Gang, a troupe of hard-hitting Italians and Irish boys looking to carve out their place in the difficult but loyal South Boston streets. Enter the rising FBI star John Connolly (Joe...

First Images From #Krampus

It’s September, so of course shops have had Christmas items on the shelves for a while. The perfect time, then, for the first look at a film based on an ancient seasonal myth. Hang your stockings for images from Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty ’s new stab at holiday horror, Krampus . The film, which stars Adam Scott, Emjay Anthony, Toni Collette, David Koechner and Fargo’s Allison Tolman , follows Max ( Anthony ), a kid around the age when Santa’s magic still has a grip on the imagination, but only just. When his dysfunctional family gathers for Christmas, he’s given even more reason to stop believing, but then a blizzard and a power outage hit their neighbourhood, which signals that Krampus and his nasty hench-creatures are on their way, looking to punish those who’ve ended up on the naughty list. And yes, it comes screaming straight out of actual lore. “It’s one thing to be terrified or enthralled when you’re watching a film,” the director tells USA Today. “To then le...

Movie Review: Hot Tub Time Machine 2

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is one of the worst films of the year, and we're still in February. Movie gods, hear our pleas! Review by Matt Cummings It doesn't happen too often when I can call a film dead on arrival, but in the case of the franchise-killing Hot Tub Time Machine 2 , I can both confidently state its supreme and utter lack of worth, while urging you to stay away at any cost. Jumping off from the end of 2010's Hot Tub Time Machine , Lou (Rob Coddry) and Nick (Craig Robinson) have made fabulous wealth over the years from their stealing of other people's intellectual property before they themselves had a chance to make it. Meanwhile, Lou's son Jacob (Clark Duke) hasn't taken advantage, relegated instead to being Lou's butler and Adam (John Cusak) is nowhere to be found. But as a guest at Lou's party shoots one of them in their privates, the trio must set off in the time machine to find the murderer, finding themselves in 2025 and mee...
