BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Do You Care For Another Kick-Ass Movie?

Mark Millar , whose comic books were the basis for this franchise is uncertain about the possibility of the third installment.. “With “ Kick-Ass ,” it was a no brainer. It was made for $28 million and made $100 million back and then made another $140 million on DVD. So for the money guys, it was a $28 million investment that made $240 million. That’s a slam dunk. You’re getting your sequel. The second one didn’t make as much. It cost a little less at around $24 million, made $61 million and made about $100 million again on DVD and TV rights. It was still profitable. It was by no means “ The Lone Ranger .” But does that mean we’ll make another one again? I don’t know. It’s definitely up in the air, and we’ll just have to see. Matthew is a guy who I trust to make that decision. If he decides he does want to do it, I know he’ll get it done well. And he’s got the movie rights, so it’s ultimately his decision. I speak to Matthew every day, and we haven’t discussed “Kick-Ass 3″ so who kn...

Classic Monsters To Appear In Godzilla 2

After this summer's reboot of Godzilla scared up an impressive $491 million worldwide, a sequel seemed assured … until Star Wars came calling. "Unfortunately, our director Gareth Edwards is locked up in a galaxy far, far away," said Legendary Pictures chief Thomas Tull let us know at Comic-Con. Indeed, after Edwards was selected to helm one of the coming Star Wars spinoffs, Hollywood wondered whether Legendary would press on with a new Godzilla film without him … but in a special video message from Edwards that just played at Hall H, the director thanked fans for their support and revealed, "It means we get to make another one. I'll be back to do Godzilla 2 ." And what might we see in the sequel? Tull showed another new video, reminiscent of Godzilla's opening-credits sequence, when three monsters turn up in classified footage: Godzilla's famous foes Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah . "There is still one secret that remains hidden," teas...

#Godzilla Review: Lumbers Along But Ultimately Delivers

After lumbering through the first hour, Godzilla delivers big time. Review by: Matt Cummings It's uncommon for a summer blockbuster to favor story over flashy effects and slow-motion action set pieces, but Director Gareth Edwards's Godzilla pushes convention aside to deliver a smart disaster film that takes a little too long to show our favorite Kaiju. When nuclear physicist Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) loses his wife/colleague to a nuclear meltdown in Japan, he discovers that the event was no accident, but caused by a creature called a MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism). This beast feeds on radiation, tearing down cities and consuming spent nuclear material for unknown reasons. But as 15 years pass, the world realizes this isn't the only problem they must face: a 350 foot monster which the Japanese call Godzilla is hunting the newly-hatched MUTO as part of its prehistoric DNA. Soon, Brody's son Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) becomes involved w...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Confirmed To Play Quicksilver

Despite the fact that everyone's been assuming that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was confirmed as Quicksilver for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron , in reality, it has taken months for him – or his representatives, at least – to make a deal with Marvel. The ink is now dry, however, and he is confirmed for Joss Whedon’s superhero sequel. The actor’s name first surfaced in June, when he was reported as Marvel’s first choice for the role back in the days when we didn’t even know what the film would be called beyond “Avengers 2”… According to The Wrap, the big sticking point for officially coming aboard was his promotional commitments to Godzilla. But diaries have now been consulted, schedules juggled and compromises made so that he can both hit the road on a press tour and suit up as Pietro Maximoff, brother to Wanda, AKA Scarlet Witch (you can get an introduction to them both right here). While her own casting hasn’t been officially confirmed, word comes (via Samuel L. Jackson!) that Eliza...

James Spader Cast As Ultron In The Avengers 2

Poor old DC.  Marvel with a casting bombshell that rains on its parade even as it mixes metaphors. What news, you ask? Only that James Spader will play the titular menace in Avengers sequel Age Of Ultron. Originally announced by writer/director Joss Whedon at Comic-Con, Age Of Ultron will see Tony Stark and the shawarma-chomping gang taking on a brand new threat torn from the pages of Marvel comic lore and given a spit-and-polish origin story wash for the big screen. Ultron is a criminally insane, rogue sentient robot dedicated to conquest and the extermination of humanity. He comes loaded with several powers, including, strength, agility, stunning intelligence and, oh yes, a rage-filled loathing for our heroes and an intent to destroy them. Bad robot! Bad! Spader seems like a fine choice to play the role, given his ability to play smarts, snark and menace when required. Plus he should have a proper handle on Whedon’s trademark snappy dialogue, assuming Ultron gets to be quipp...

Kick-Ass 2 Review. How Does The Film Fare Against More Polished Superhero Flicks

Kick-Ass 2 Review By: MattInRC The wild Kick-Ass 2 delivers all the fun and gore of the first, even if it betrays some of its morals. Comic book movies have followed a parallel path with the Sci-Fi & Action genres ever since Bryan Singer's X-Men : due to the nature of the characters, it's perfectly acceptable to display implausible violence. Whether it's watching an entire city leveled or some fantastic move by a superhuman or mutant, we've been willing to play along. But when a comic book film proposes that it's better than that - and then proceeds to display the same sort of images - casual fans might have a hard time distinguishing between it and the litany of films which occupy Summer theaters. This is where Kick-Ass 2 finds itself, a totally enjoyable experience even if it's exactly opposite of what it wants to be. The world of real-life crime fighting has weighed heavily on our titular hero ( Aaron Taylor-Johnson ) and Hit Girl ( ...

Ken Watanabe Joins Godzilla

It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but after a couple of years of rumours, producer scuffles, casting announcements and scriptwriter changes, the new version of Godzilla has finally kicked off shooting under the direction of Monsters’ Gareth Edwards . The start-of-production notice also includes a full cast list, with mention that Inception’s Ken Watanabe has signed on. He joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston . Edwards, who’s working from a script that includes work by Max Borenstein, Drew Pearce, Dave Callaham and Frank Darabont, started the cameras cranking Monday in Vancouver, where the giant beast is expected to cause all sorts of mayhem. Godzilla, we mean. Gareth’s not usually known for causing mass destruction except when he points a camera at something. His family holidays must be a hell of an experience. After teasing the world with teaser footage at Comic-Con back in 2012, Warner Bros. and Legenda...

Aaron Johnson Eyed For Godzilla

Legendary Pictures is eyeing Kick-Ass star Aaron-Taylor Johnson to star in Godzilla , the Gareth Edwards-directed reboot of the franchise based on the iconic Japanese reptile. I’m told that Johnson, who starred in the Oliver Stone-directed Savages and Anna Karenina and followed by reprising in Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall is the frontrunner for the job. He won’t make a final decision on whether or not to take the offer until he sees the final polish that Frank Darabont is writing based on the Max Borenstein script. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are taking the creative lead on this project — they just put Mary Parent on after she became a producer of Pacific Rim — and Warner Bros is distributing everywhere except for Japan. There, rightsholders Toho will handle the release. While there has obviously been a legal dust-up in the producing ranks, the film is still on course to begin production in March, with the film dated for a May 16, 2014 release. If he takes the gig...

Anna Karenina Review. Oscar Glory In It's Future?

Anna Karenina Review By: MattInRC Does the bold Anna Karenina have Oscar glory emblazoned on its beauty pageant sash? Read on to find out. Among the most visually stunning movies in memory, Anna Karenina is a bold spectacle, keenly self-aware of its environment, and daring audiences to peer into its chaotic and highly-stylized snowball. But like an old repainted door, the rust of a chunky tragic love story rears its head far too often to either keep our attention or root for anyone inside the ball.11 For those of you unfamiliar with Tolstoy’s 846-page planet-killer, here’s the 24-hour news cycle summary: the beautiful and independent aristocrat Anna Karenina ( Keira Knightley , King Arthur) and the dashing Count Vronsky ( Aaron Taylor-Johnson , Kick-Ass) fall head over heels in love with each other, while Anna’s dull politician husband Alexi ( Jude Law , Gattaca) watches his marriage fall apart. As the young lovers descend into a messy affair, Russia’s uncompromi...

Jim Carrey Wanted For Kick-Ass 2

I am not sure he’s going to say yes, but Jim Carrey is being courted by Universal to play a showy supporting role in Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall , the Jeff Wadlow-directed sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s crazy superhero movie. The character is called The Colonel , and he helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil. The sequel brings back Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicolas Cage . Carrey is a big fan of Matthew Vaughn and his original Kick-Ass film. Here, he wore the Kick-Ass costume for a musical duet with a bearded Conan O’Brien. But dealmaking is dealmaking, and this is far from a sure thing, at this point just a great idea. Kick-Ass 2 Casting News

As director Jeff Wadlow gets ready to roll the cameras on Kick-Ass 2 , he’s filling in some of the smaller roles. Just today, two actors have been added to the line-up, with Morris Chestnut and Robert Emms jumping aboard. Chestnut , who was last seen in Think Like A Man , is on to play Hit-Girl ( Chloe Moretz )’s guardian, who takes over caring for her in the wake of Big Daddy ( Nicolas Cage )’s death in the last movie. Hit-Girl in the sequel initially opts to retire from her life of ass kicking, but soon gets back in the game. Emms , meanwhile, will be Insect Man, a part of a league known as Justice Forever, and a former cop who fights crime after being disillusioned by the corruption and lack of competence of the force. Wadlow, who wrote the script and is directing under the guidance of Kick-Ass godfathers Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn, is now aiming to start shooting next month and has been handed a US release date of June 28, 2013. He’s returning the likes of Aaron Johns...
