BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

300: Rise Of An Empire Review

300: Rise of an Empire Review By: Matt Cummings 300: Rise of An Empire is an orgy of bloody warfare and overtly nude women. And we're fine with that. Among our favorite films is the festival of gore and nudity known as 300 - it launched the careers of Actors Lena Headey and Gerard Butler , and made Zack Snyder an over-night household directorial name. We'd never seen anything like it before, and Hollywood responded by trying to duplicate its success to no avail. With the long-overdue release of 300: Rise of an Empire , we realize the sometimes the best way to duplicate success is to do it yourself. After the death of King Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army marches towards the various and disunited city-states, targeting Athens herself. While King Xerxes ( Rodrigo Santoro ) assaults the first democratic city in Europe, the brutal naval commander Artemisia ( Eva Green ) sets her eyes northward to Admiral Themistokles ( Sullivan Stapleton ), who uses brilliant tacti

6 (or 7) Movies On Our Radar - March 2014

By: Matt Cummings These are the March films which should get you to the theaters. After a surprisingly strong Winter movie season, March arrives with an intriguing lineup that feels more like something we'd see in Summer. Over the past few years, March has been interesting in that it seems more like a roll-out month than a leech, ready to usher in a strong April that ultimately leads us to Summer. That's good or bad depending on how you look at it, but one thing is for sure: there are a surprising amount of high profile releases that could either become impressive money-makers or duds that will quickly find their way to the Blu-ray bargain bin. For a schedule that includes a second Bible epic, a comic book adaptation, and a Muppet movie, March certainly arrives with six (or seven) movies that have peaked our interest. 300: Rise of an Empire (March 7th)   The original 300 was a masterpiece of cinema: beautifully violent, it ushered in a new way of film-making

Atlantis Rising Has Found Life Again

Much like the legends that surround the place itself, the cinematic adaptation of Platinum Studios’ comic series Atlantis Rising will not stay sunk. Now Immortals co-producer Mark Canton has jumped aboard for the latest effort to get it on screen. Crafted by Scott Michell Rosenberg, Atlantis Rising originally saw the light as a five-issue miniseries, which chronicled what happens when the world’s militaries investigate a series of deep-sea earthquakes. Given the title of the thing, you won’t be surprised to learn that they find the lost kingdom of Atlantis, whose inhabitants are none too pleased about the sudden intrusion from above. Events escalate from there and soon it’s all-out war. It’s a tempting title for anyone planning a franchise, though given the scope and the likely effects costs, it’s also not the easiest sell to budget-conscious studios. One attempt has already floundered, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman looking to line up a version at DreamWorks that had Len Wis

Zack Snyder To Direct Superman Movie

Zack Snyder To Direct Superman Movie Updated: Zack Snyder just tweeted this on his twitter account. Can u Guess what picture? @ZackSnyder: I finally get to put my 32 cents in... Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the new Superman movie, which Christopher Nolan is producing for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Negotiations began earlier today. Snyder had been on the list of helmers ensconced in meetings with Nolan and Warners execs, who in recent weeks have talked to Darren Aronofsky, Ben Affleck, Matt Reeves and Tony Scott . The job was so coveted that even Robert Zemeckis , retired to the world of performance capture, considered returning to live-action filmmaking in order to nab the gig. A new Superman movie is one of the studio's top priorities, not only since it serves as linchpin for its line of DC superhero-based films, but especially since Warners needs to be in production on a new Superman movie by 2011 or risk losing certain copyrights to the heirs

Frank Miller's Gearing Up For Prequel To "300"

Frank Miller's Gearing Up For Prequel To "300" Hidden in the article from the La Times I found some juicy news about the prequel to the film "300" The Zack Snyder film, the highest-grossing March release ever, was based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel about King Leonidas and his doomed army of Spartans; Miller is preparing a follow-up now titled “Xerxes,” which begins about 10 years before the events of “300,” and Snyder has expressed interest in it as a film property as well. “It’s the battle of Marathon through my lens,” Miller said Wednesday. “I’ve finished the plot and I’m getting started on the artwork.” Miller said he is not surprised Greece is resurgent in Hollywood. “Every generation returns to ancient Greece because, well, the stories are so damn good,” said the artist, who also directed last year’s “The Spirit.” Miller said that during his research trips to Greece he realized that the myth and history overlap begins to blur, which adds to the storytel
