Lupita Nyong'o In Talks To Join Black Panther

THR is reporting Lupita Nyong'o , who won an Oscar for her performance in 12 Years a Slave , is in negotiations to star opposite Chadwick Boseman in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther . Ryan Coogler , who wrote and directed Creed , is helming the comic book movie as well as writing the script. Boseman and Black Panther were introduced in Captain America: Civil War , which crossed the $700 million worldwide mark in under a week and a half. The character, whose name is T’Challa, is the warrior king of Wakanda, Marvel’s fictional African nation that is rich in an unbreakable alloy called vibranium. N’yongo’s character has not been revealed, although she will be the Panther’s love interest. Black Panther has a Feb. 2, 2018, release date, with production set to start in early 2017. N’yongo last appeared as the alien Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and lent her voice for the wolf Raksha in The Jungle Book. John Ridley To Direct Film Based On L.A. RIOTS

BROAD GREEN PICTURES PARTNERS WITH IMAGINE ENTERTAINMENT ON UNTITLED L.A. RIOTS FILM. Academy Award-Winning Writer John Ridley to Direct Based on His Own Script; Academy Award-Winning Producer Brian Grazer. Broad Green Pictures announced today a partnership with Imagine Entertainment to produce and distribute an untitled film about the infamous Los Angeles riots that transformed America’s perceptions on race, justice and economics, and sparked massive change in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). John Ridley , the Academy Award-winning 12 Years a Slave scribe and creator of the Emmy Award-winning “ American Crime ,” will direct the film from his own screenplay. Academy Award winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster) will produce. The film will begin principal photography in spring 2016. Trailer For Jimi: All Is By My Side

There are a number of films about different periods in the life of iconic guitar slinger / singer Jimi Hendrix in development. After playing various festivals, Jimi: All Is By My Side is the first to actually take aim at theaters. Written and director by 12 Years A Slave scribe John Ridley , and featuring Outkast’s Andre 3000 (here credited as Andre Benjamin ), it’s an account of his pre-fame days, of time spent in London, the people he meets and his tangles with the law. It’s also minus any of his famous music, which seems odd for a film about a man who had such an impact on it, but without the expensive, closely held rights to his work, this is what Ridley focused on.
