Cementing a very successful period for the company, Blumhouse Productions' Happy Death Day blew past the second weekend of Blade Runner 2049 to nab the top spot at the US box office with $26.5 million, according to studio estimates. It's an impressive initial haul for the time-looping slasher comedy, which was made for the typically thrifty Blumhouse price of a little less than $5 million. And adding in its limited foreign business so far, the movie has made $31.5 million. By contrast, the Blade Runner sequel , which cost an estimated $150 million (not including marketing) earned $15.1 million this weekend after a launch that saw it win the charts but underperform in terms of expectations.
