THR is reporting Sam Rockwell is joining Christian Bale in Cheney , Adam McKay’s biopic of former vice president Dick Cheney. Rockwell is in final negotiations to add his name to the call sheet that already includes Steve Carell, Amy Adams and Bill Pullman for the drama from Annapurna. Bale is portraying the titular character in a story that chronicles Cheney avoiding military service in the Vietnam War, his rise to CEO of the multinational corporation Halliburton and finally becoming what some have called the most powerful U.S. vice president ever to hold office. Carell has been cast as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, while Adams is playing Cheney’s wife, Lynne. Rockwell will play Cheney’s boss, President George W. Bush, who steered the nation through the attacks of 9/11, the events that allowed Cheney to exercise his power when it came to fighting terrorism. When he's not busy punishing people as Frank Castle on Netflix, Jon Bernthal is nabbing film roles left and right. He's just completed work on Steve McQueen's crime thriller Widows and is now headed for a part in First Man . The Neil Armstrong biopic finds Ryan Gosling as the main man, charting his training and the missions that led to his walking on the moon. Bernthal is aboard as Dave Scott, a fellow pilot and astronaut who was his partner on the Gemini VIII mission. Damien Chazelle is staging the reunion with his La La Land star Gosling, and the cast also includes Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll and Claire Foy. The cameras will start rolling this November in Atlanta. It was a slooooow weekend at the US box office, with little in the way of truly notable wide releases. Which might go some way to explaining why The Hitman's Bodyguard stayed top of the charts. The Ryan Reynolds/Samuel L. Jackson action caper added $10 million, according to studio estimates. That means the film has thus far earned $39.6 million in the States, and clung to its place for a second week. Annabelle: Creation also stayed where it was in second, bringing in $7.3 million. The first of this week's main new arrivals was animated ballet pic Leap! , which landed third on $5 million. It beat Wind River , which increased its screen count and jumped up the top 10 to fourth with $4.4 million. Rounding out the top five we find Logan Lucky , down from third with $4.3 million.
