Sylvester Stallone has been the big driving force behind a sequel to the excellent Creed (not shocking given the shot in the arm it provided for the Rocky franchise) and has now taken to his usual venue of choice – Instagram – to announce that he'll be stepping up to direct the new film.
While Stallone has certainly got enough directorial experience on his CV, the announcement that he'll be pulling multiple roles on the film (he's producing, writing, appearing as Rocky and now directing) does rather have us worried, since the vitality and nuance of the first Creed was largely attributable to co-writer/director Ryan Coogler.
Michael B. Jordan is back as Adonis Johnson, son of the late Apollo Creed, but beyond that little has been officially confirmed. Sly has been nodding towards an encounter with the son of Dolph Lundgren's Ivan Drago (the man who killed the elder Creed in the ring), and we'll wait and see how real that is.
