He was the man who originally introduced us to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe way back in 2008's Iron Man, and since then Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has been the key connective tissue for the various superhero stories. But though he's not been seen on screen since 2015's Avengers: Age Of Ultron, it appears he'll be part of Captain Marvel.
Of course, there's every chance that he'll be back before that, since the Avengers have those two giant Infinity War movies next year and 2019, but it would be fun to see him ushering Kong: Skull Island co-star Brie Larson into the next incarnation of the MCU. The news originated as a rumour with Omega Underground and has since been confirmed by Deadline, though there has been no official word from Marvel.
With Larson attached to star as test pilot-turned-super-powered human Carol Danvers, the film has slowly been developing, written by Guardians Of The Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg LeFauve. Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck were hired to make the movie back in April, with a release date targeted for 8 March, 2019.
