BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: #WarForThePlanetOfTheApes Extraordinary

Apes, together, strong!

RAMA is back.

War For The Planet Of The Apes is extraordinary. It’s got Oscar written all over it. Simply one of this year’s best. Goes to prove that with the right technology and the right storytelling quality and a perfectly clear end-goal, a reboot of an old franchise can get better and better with each installment.

Written by Mark Bomback and Matt Reeves who directed it, in “War For The Planet of The Apes,” Caesar and his apes try their best to let humans know that they don’t want war. But a tragedy occurs which forces Caesar to track down and confront a ruthless colonel. As his vengeful quest goes on, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and must ultimately face the decision that will determine the fate of both species.

What’s incredible about “War for The Planet of The Apes” in my opinion is that it doesn’t just offer the final conflict between man and apes. The true grit of the story lies in the characters’ battling their own personal demons. On one corner you have Caesar (Andy Serkis) and on the other corner of the ring, you have the colonel (Woody Harrelson), both have lost a great amount but one can still prevent himself from losing his soul. The drama is solid, it’s well-written, well-structured, Bomback and Reeves successfully humanize the apes and present them as some kind of refugees.

In a way, it’s also a survival film, and you can tell that “War For The Planet of the Apes” may have drawn some inspiration from some of cinema’s all-time great prison films like “The Bridge On The River Kwai” or “Papillon.” By now, I’m sure cinema fans have run out of words to praise the consistent, outstanding work of WETA digital and the remarkable performance-capture work by actors like Andy Serkis, but it doesn’t hurt to give them another round of applause because what they have accomplished here in “War For The Planet of The Apes” will floor you. The adorable child character, Nova (Amiah Miller) and the beautiful, beautiful music by composer Michael Giacchino help elevate this story’s attempts to evoke all kinds of empathetic emotions. What a mind-blowing experience, “War For The Planet of The Apes” is a perfect film.
