BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Wonder Woman Still On Top

Such was the power of Diana, Princess of Themyscira that she was able to defeat the combined powers of The Mummy and its star Tom Cruise, as Wonder Woman saw off the monster and earned $57.1 million in the process, according to studio estimates.

That's no mean feat for a superhero film, particularly given the patchy box office past of the DCEU though seemingly an easy one for Wonder Woman, which dropped just 44% on its second weekend. The movie's US total has quickly flown past $200 million and internationally it has already made more than $435 million in 10 days.

As for The Mummy, Universal's attempt to launch its Dark Universe of connected monster movies isn't quite off to the flying start the studio might have hoped for, as the film opened to $32.2 million in the States. Opening the same day in many global territories gave a small boost, as its foreign take was a more impressive $141.8 million for a worldwide take to date of $174 million. With the expansive plans to bring more creature features out in the coming years, the company may be forced to tighten a few budgets. Bridesmaid Of Frankenstein, anyone? The Dog Man?

DreamWorks Animation's Captain Underpants was pushed to third, adding $12.3 million, while Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (contractual reminder that it's Salazar's Revenge here) slipped one place to fourth on $10.7 million. Rounding out the top five is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which made $6.2 million and has earned $366.3 million in the US after six weeks on release. Globally, the Guardians are climbing past $800 million.

Creepy, paranoid post-apocalyptic indie-budgeted tale It Comes At Night made an impressive showing, launching in sixth place with $6 million, with Baywatch sinking to seventh on $4.6 million. Another new arrival, Kate Mara-starring war drama Megan Leavey, took in $3.7 million to kick off its cinematic run in eighth place.

Alien: Covenant fell to ninth with $1.8 million, while Everything, Everything dropped to 10th on $1.6 million.

Opening just outside the top 10, we find period drama adaptation My Cousin Rachel earning $954,000. Not too bad for a film that started on just 523 screens.
