BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: #BEFOREIFALL

It's like a TV movie you'd watch on channels like The CW

RAMA delivers another review.

The way to best describe “Before I Fall” is.. it’s as if The CW has their own Groundhog Day-esque TV movie. It does have twists and turns and its own interesting take on this overly used concept about a day that keeps inexplicably repeating itself again and again. But it really doesn’t get more of a teen drama than “Before I Fall”

Zoey Deutch plays Samantha Kingston who seems to have it all, popular friends, popular boyfriend, Samantha’s even smart and very well-driven. The Valentine’s day is going well until the evening comes and a certain car crash happens that causes Samantha to relive the same day over and over again. She must then decide to figure out the mystery of why she’s stuck in that one single day and how she could make a difference in the lives of those around her.

Kudos to rising star, Zoey Deutch, I think she does a fine job of carrying this movie as the lead, she really captures the evolution of her character from getting frustrated to not giving a damn to accepting. It’s like going through fives stages of grief multiplied by how many ever times that her character has to wake up on the same day.

I think “Before I Fall” means well, it wants to teach high school-aged audiences not to be mean to those who are different, not to judge people by its cover, to realize that actions have consequences, all that good stuff your teacher or your parent is supposed to tell you already by now. It also features some of today’s most vibrant young actors including actress Halston Sage who I keep seeing in lots of movies in recent years including “Neighbors,” “Paper Towns,” “Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse,” it seems that when Hollywood needs a young blond who gives out popular girl vibe, they call Sage. But again, “Before I Fall” is too much of a teen drama, which lends itself to predictability, not to mention that even though it’s only 99 minutes long, it feels like a lifetime for Samantha to finally put the pieces together.
