Warner Bros. and DC's film version of The Flash seemed to be going full speed ahead back in October of last year, when Dark Shadows script man Seth Grahame-Smith stepped aboard to make it his directorial debut. But he left just as suddenly at the start of last month, leaving the film without a director. A replacement has now been found, with Dope's Rick Famuyiwa taking the job.
Famuyiwa will inherit Grahame-Smith's script for the movie, though he'll probably have some input into any changes moving forward. Ezra Miller, who was introduced as the speedster in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, is set to reprise the role in the first Justice League movie, which is now shooting.
Hiring Famuyiwa has the feeling of a positive step forward: while he hasn't worked on a big tentpole effects film, he's brought a lot of vision and heart to his indie work and hiring directors with his sort of CV hasn't hurt Marvel, which saw success with the likes of Joe and Anthony Russo.
The Flash's stand-alone adventure is currently scheduled to appear in 2018.
