Variety is reporting “Captain America: Civil War” star and on of our favorite actors Frank Grillo is taking the title role in the action-thriller “Wheelman” with shooting set to start in September.
Grillo plays a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him, and the only person he can trust is his 14-year-old daughter.
Jeremy Rush is directing from his own script. Joe Carnahan is producing the film alongside Myles Nestel for The Solution Entertainment Group and Grillo, who’s making his producing debut.
The Solution is handling international rights and will introduce the film to buyers at Cannes. CAA will represent the film’s U.S. rights.
The Solution is also financing the picture. J Todd Harris, Chady Mattar and Scott Silver are executive producing.
“This is a full throttle, edge of your seat, ride of your life and we are delighted to be producing this film with the incomparable Joe Carnahan,” said Nestel. “Frank is perfectly cast as a man who has to dig deep and who will stop at nothing to protect his family and survive.’
Grillo is the star of “The Purge” franchise and reprises his role as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in “Captain America: Civil War.” He also stars in the DirecTV series “Kingdom.”
Carnahan directed and produced “The Grey” and “Smokin Aces.” He also exec produces NBC’s “State of Affairs.”
