There's a new trailer for Ryan Reynolds ’ The Voices and it’s every bit as twisted as you’d expect from a black comedy about a serial killer who follows instructions from a talking cat called Mr. Whiskers. There’s also a talking dog, an Elvis impersonator and Gemma Arterton ’s head in a fridge. The Voices sees Reynolds playing a diffident warehouse worker called Jerry Hickfang. Third time is no charm for Bryan Mills' skills. Taken 3 Review by Brandon Wolfe Some franchises have a heck of a time justifying their continuing existence. While some films have premises conducive to repeat adventures, others are strictly one-shot-deals that simply aren’t built to spawn offspring. Die Hard was seemingly one of these films, but it somehow managed to buck the odds for at least a couple of sequels. More recently, someone got it into their head that The Hangover had trilogy potential when it very clearly only made sense as a single film. Now they’ve squeezed two sequels out of Taken , the 2009 sleeper hit where Liam Neeson used his now-infamous particular set of skills to take out the Eurotrash who absconded with his teenage daughter. Taken was a lean, satisfying, hugely effective action-thriller, but it was also a closed loop. After a solid opening, The World Made Straight slows to a painful Southern crawl. For 17-year-old drop out Travis (Jeremy Irvine), that life is going nowhere until he meets a former teacher turned drug dealer Leonard (Noah Wylie) who sees the boy as full of potential. Unfortunately, his world also includes the dangerous drug lord Carlton (Steve Earle) and the sexually available druggie Dena (Minka Kelly). As Travis seeks help from Leonard to pass the GED, he learns of a deep betrayal that goes back to The Civil War, leading to a final showdown that puts his future in the crosshairs. The trouble with this production is that so little of it is interesting or even worthy of our attention. Marvel’s Agent Carter “Now is Not the End” / “Bridge and Tunnel” Review by Brandon Wolfe Out of all the characters that have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’m not sure that Agent Peggy Carter would have been my first choice for a television spin-off. That’s not a swipe at Hayley Atwell’s steely American agent (with a British accent), who was perfectly fine in Captain America: The First Avenger , but this wasn’t a character that seemed to necessitate further exploration on an expanded canvas. Add to that the fact that Carter was landlocked from the rest of the active Marvel Universe due to her existence in the 1940s, making the opportunities for movie crossovers virtually impossible, or at least less significant (even Cap himself is frozen in her timeline and therefore unavailable for cameos), and it didn’t seem like a show about Carter would prove a fruitful endeavor toward Marvel’s hyper-synergistic approach
