BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Sony Dates Bad Boys 3 & 4, Dark Tower, More

Will both sequels star the original Willennial?

By Brandon Wolfe

Sony has offered us a glimpse into its crystal ball, revealing its slate of upcoming films for the next few years. This report shows a slight release date shift for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters to July 15, 2016; the Magnificent Seven remake dropping on September 23, 2016; Underworld 5 on October 21, 2016; the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi team-up Passengers on December 21, 2016; a revival of Jumanji on Christmas Day, 2016; Resident Evil 6 on January 27, 2017; and the screen debut of Barbie on June 2, 2017.

However, the bigger surprises to be found in this crop are the revelations that the first installment of the eternally delayed adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower has been given a concrete release date of January 13, 2017, and that not one, but TWO sequels to Bad Boys have been dated, for February 17, 2017 and July 3, 2019. Last we heard about a third Bad Boys was that Joe Carnahan was in talks to direct the film, but nothing further has come down the wire since, least of all whether or not the film would feature the returning duo of Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. However, if Bad Boys 4 is opening on the Fourth of July weekend in 2019, that's a good sign that Smith is on board. July 4th is his turf.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
