As the cameras continue to roll on Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, the Spy director is adding more cast members to his ensemble. He now has Andy Garcia, Matt Walsh and Michael Kenneth Williams on board.
As you’ll likely already know, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are already busy in the main roles, playing four women who must stop New York being swamped by spooks and ghouls.
Garcia is playing the mayor of the city the man who, if he holds true to Ghostbusters tradition, won’t be the biggest fan of the characters, at least not until he really needs their help. Walsh, currently best known for playing the nervy Mike McLintock on Veep, will be a character known as Rourke, though we don’t know what he’ll be up to. Could he be the usual busybody who gets in the Ghostbusters’ way? If so, he’ll be joining a proud lineage that includes actors William Atherton and Kurt Fuller. As for Williams, he’s also a mystery, but The Wrap reports he’s set to play someone named Hawkins. They join Chris Hemsworth, who is playing an assistant to McCarthy and co.
And in keeping with another hallmark of the original film, a real-life news anchor, this time NY1’s Pat Kiernan, will crop up in the plot to report on the spectral goings on and the women who are trying to stay in business busting ghosts.
Working from a script he co-wrote with Katie Dippold, Feig is now shooting in Boston, taking aim at a July 2016 release.
