DC spends little time in finding Michelle MacLaren's replacement.
Story by Matt Cummings
With news that Director Michelle MacLaren had left the long-awaited Wonder Woman film last week, it seemed like fans might have been denied one of The Justice League's top cops. Not so much. On Wednesday, Warner Bros (via THR) announced that director Patty Jenkins has agreed to step in.
Does the name sound familiar? It might, if you had been following the development of Thor: The Dark World. Jenkins departed that production (due to creative differences), allowing Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor to step in. This signing hopefully ends the small circus that had developed around the Amazonian Princess’ first solo movie. Names like Angelina Jolie were circulated, but it was the Monster director Jenkins who finally won out. She's primarily known for her director that nabbed Actress Charlize Theron a Best Actress Oscar in 2011, but Jenkins has directed episodes of Arrested Development and The Killing.
Hopefully, the struggles Jenkins had with Marvel won't be repeated with DC. Known for their 'creative production schedule' - which included handing Taylor scripts sometimes on the day a scene was being shot - DC can put Jenkins in a better position by surrounding her both with top action and stunt coordinators, a great Director of Photography, and an actual finished script. A number of factors at Marvel put Jenkins in a position to fail, something that DC would be wise to avoid.
Wonder Woman still stars Gal Gadot and will be released on June 23, 2017.
