The classic gets wet and spawns a remake.

Because it was a popular thing that happened in the 1980s, it’s now time to brush the dust off of Gremlins for its inevitable reboot. Warner Bros. has hired Goosebumps screenwriter Carl Ellsworth to pen a remake of the 1984 horror-comedy classic about creatures that react poorly to light, water and midnight snacks.
Chris Columbus, who wrote the script for the original, will produce the remake along with original producer Steven Spielberg. Notably absent from the report is the participation of original director Joe Dante, whose manic inventiveness was key to the offbeat charms of the original and (especially) its 1990 sequel. Without Dante’s involvement, a Gremlins remake somehow manages to find yet another way to feel entirely pointless.
