BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Wizard Wars Holds Its Own

How Well Is Syfy’s Reality Show Doing?
Story By David Clark
The Syfy Channel is often associated as a place comprised entirely of fairytale and alien programming. Some might think it is a channel people quickly switch away from for fear of being labeled a nerd or geek. The honest truth, the Syfy channel has a little something for everybody.

Regardless of perception there is one show that might be worth checking out. Latest ratings have Penn and Teller’s show Wizard Wars commanding a weekly viewership upwards of 1.68 million people.

The premise of the show has young aspiring magicians trying to impress the infamous Penn and Teller utilizing everyday objects to perform mind bending magic tricks.

Airing weekly on Thursday nights in the 10/9c time slot the show has seen an increase in audience size of 36% in the second season. When compared to the field of cable programming available in the same time slot, Wizard Wars is ranked within the top 10 amongst adults age 18-49, adults 25-54, and total viewers. The show must be doing something right to be captivating such a wide demographic of people and to have such a significant increase in viewership.

The next episode titled Silly Rabbits pits contestants from Las Vegas against each other in a battle of the Vegas Strip for a $10,000 prize. Silly Rabbits airs Thursday at 10/9c February 5th, and might be worth a watch if the ratings are any indication..

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
