’80s icon heads back to the playhouse.
By Brandon Wolfe
Pee-wee Herman will make his long-awaited return on Netflix, as the streaming giant has announced that it will exclusively premiere Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, the third film starring Paul Reubens’ iconic character. Reubens will produce the film alongside Judd Apatow. John Lee, a veteran of Comedy Central’s Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer, will direct from a script by Reubens and Paul Rust. Production begins in March.
The film centers around Pee-wee’s meeting with a mysterious stranger that inspires the grey-suited goofball take his first-ever holiday (which, wasn’t what he did in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure technically taking a holiday, or am I too hung up on the British sense of the word?). It is the first film to feature the character since 1988’s Big Top Pee-wee.
