Original Professor X not ready to retire just yet.
By Brandon Wolfe
While it had initially seemed as though Fox were phasing out the old X-Men cast (save for Hugh Jackman, who will be playing Wolverine until the sun engulfs the Earth) to focus solely upon the younger First Class crew, it turns out our elderly mutants aren’t being put out to pasture just yet. Speaking to Oregon Live about his latest film Match, Patrick Stewart dropped the bombshell that plans are in the works to team his version of Professor X with everyone’s favorite scruffy, claw-handed mutant for the third Wolverine film.
“What I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together,” Stewart said. “Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I’ve already done."
Stewart, clearly on a face-melting tear, also stated that while he is not expected to appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, his bestie Ian McKellan will. “Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it,” Stewart insists. So the overriding theory that Days of Future Past was the curtain call for the original ‘00s crew has, happily, turned out to be premature.
