The Four are back and fun-time's over.
By Brandon Wolfe
The first teaser for the hotly unanticipated reboot of Fantastic Four has debuted. The tone at play here is dark and deadly serious, a stark contrast to the bright-colored and comical tone of the Tim Story film from a decade ago. While that is an understandable course-correction, given how loathed that film is, this tonal shift also runs counter to the playful tone of the comic itself, taking the Nolanesque “dark and gritty” approach that studios still seem to gravitate toward even as Marvel continually proves that audiences are OK with fun in their superhero adventures nowadays. At any rate, there’s not much to see here just yet, other than a declaration that this isn’t your slightly older brother’s Fantastic Four. Fantastic Four (Take 2) opens August 7 and is directed by Chronicle’s Josh Trank. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE FANTASTIC (?) TEASER Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook.
