The ABC show continues to improve its cast with the commander of The Galactica.
Story by Matt Cummings
It's not every day that you get to see a television show grow into something of true quality. Such is the case for ABC/Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a show maligned in the first half of its first season with poor writing and utterly forgettable characters. But that all changed with Captain America: The Winter Solider, blowing the Marvel Cinematic Universe wide open and pitting our heroes against Hydra and the U.S. government
The show has also benefitted from a serious injection of new and exciting taken, from BJ Brit to Adrianne Palicki. Recently, the show also added veteran Blair Underwood to play May's ex-, and now we've learned about yet another signing that could be the biggest so far Battlestar Galactica alum Edward James Olmos has signed on to play Robert Gonzalez, who's been promised to play a large role in Season 2.5. In fact Marvel's statement announcing Olmos says his role will, "have massive repercussions for Director Coulson and his team." That's an exciting change, and representative of the tone ABC has recently taken with S.H.I.E.L.D., appearing to favor a villain arc rather than one to be dealt with in a weaker, weekly format. We love this concept, as Reed Diamond and Bill Paxton played such terrific roles as Hydra instigators throughout their runs on the show.
Olmos can certainly bring that gravitas, and the idea of him dealing another blow to Coulson's team could have some exciting results. Moreover, S.H.I.E.L.D.is in the idle of one of the most compelling plot threads currently on television that will play their way through Season 2.5. We'll see how Skye/Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and Raina (Ruth Negga)deal with their new Inhumans powers, while the still-alive Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) has struck out on his own after Skye tried to kill him. We'll also see if the Bobbi/Lance and Fitz/Simmons love stories will pan out. We've liked the complex nature under which Fitz and Simmons currently exist and would Like to see that continue as season 2 wraps up. which gives the series a heart.
We'll have to wait until March to see how it all plays out. But for now, enjoy the very good Agent Carter which has tempt paired taken its place.
