New Year's Day this year may be spent entirely on the couch for fans devoted to Ross, Rachel and the gang . The complete series of Friends will start streaming on Netflix on Jan. 1 . This is the first time the NBC series will be available on a streaming service. Other movies coming to Netflix next month include Chef; Cast Away; 101 Dalmatians; and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Continuing his recent trend of looking unrecognisable from one film to the next, this new still from Everest reveals a more hirsute Jake Gyllenhaal than we're used to. Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke and John Hawkes also star in the moutaineering disaster drama, directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband, 2 Guns). The story is of the 1996 events, made famous by Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air (already filmed as a TV movie with Christopher McDonald as Krakauer), in which three separate Everest expeditions ran into tragic difficulty in a sudden storm. Eight climbers died. This version of what happened is drawn from more sources than just Krakauer however, including other books and new interviews with the survivors. Pretty faithful adaptation of Sondheim's beloved play With a child-molesting wolf, a baby-stealing witch and an adulterous wife, this fairy tale is definitely not your normal Disney fare. Into the Woods has long been a fan favorite on Broadway, but finding its way to the big screen hasn't been quick or easy by any means. While there are some changes to the original masterpiece, Into the Woods is a pretty faithful adaptation of Sondheim's beloved play that translates well to the big screen. Sony's The Interview will become available today on a variety of online platforms including YouTube Movies, Google Play, Microsoft's Xbox Video and Sony's own dedicated website www.seetheinterview.com , the studio has announced. Gone Girl standout Kim Dickens has been tapped as the female lead opposite Cliff Curtis in the pilot for The Walking Dead companion series at AMC. The project was created by Robert Kirkman , on whose graphic novel The Walking Dead was based, and Dave Erickson, with Adam Davidson set to direct. The Fast & Furious director has been chosen to replace Roberto Orci. The story of Star Trek 3 's production problems have unfortunately overtaken the actual shooting and planned release of the film, leaving Trekkers to worry about the future for this divisive reboot franchise. One big question was answered on Monday, as Paramount announced that Justin Lin was signed to direct, taking over the center chair for the departed Roberto Orci (whose stays on to produce). The question of whether Lin was the right choice certainly is a valuable one. Known for directing four of the successful Fast & Furious films, Lin brings a fast-car style of excitement that Star Trek has never had. He's a proven commodity on big budget productions, essentially breathing in new life to a franchise that had honestly gotten stale - you can only show so many hot women, fast cars, and actors who can't act before audiences ask for more.
