BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Nominees For The Screen Actors Guild Awards Announced Today

Nominations for the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday morning. Birdman and Modern Family scored the most noms, with four each, including noms for best motion picture cast and best comedy series ensemble.

Birdman was also nominated for best actor (Michael Keaton), best supporting actor (Edward Norton) and best supporting actress (Emma Stone). Boyhood scored the second most film nominations, with three, including ones for best motion picture cast, best supporting actor (Ethan Hawke) and best supporting actress (Patricia Arquette).

A full list of nominees after the Jump...

Two tales of real-life geniuses, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything, each landed three noms. Both titles were nominated for best cast and best actor (Benedict Cumberbatch for The Imitation Game and Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything). The Theory of Everything's Felicity Jones also scored a best actress nom, while The Imitation Game's Keira Knightley was recognized with a best supporting actress nomination.

Foxcatcher landed two noms, the only other film with multiple nominations. Steve Carell was nominated for best actor for his role as John du Pont and Mark Ruffalo was nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Dave Schultz. Surprisingly, Foxcatcher star Channing Tatum failed to land a nomination for his role as Mark Schultz.

While Gone Girl's Rosamund Pike landed a best actress nomination, the film's cast wasn't recognized with the best ensemble nom The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg predicted it would land. Similarly, Into the Woods was also left out of the best motion picture cast category, but star Meryl Streep landed a best actress nomination for her role as The Witch. Other surprises among the film nominees included nominations in the best actor and actress category for Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) and Jennifer Aniston (Cake), a best actor nomination for The Judge's Robert Duvall and a best supporting actress nomination for St. Vincent's Naomi Watts, none of whom were frontrunners in their categories.

Fox Searchlight — which released Birdman, Wild and The Grand Budapest Hotel — scored the most nominations of any studio with six. Sony Pictures Classics — which released Foxcatcher, Still Alice and Whiplash — and The Weinstein Company (The Imitation Game, St. Vincent) landed four nominations each.

On the TV side, Modern Family is up for best comedy series ensemble, best comedy actor (two noms: Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet) and best comedy actress (Julie Bowen). The show is currently tied with ER for the most ensemble wins, at four each, a record Modern Family could break with another trophy in 2015.

Other multiple TV nominees include Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and Homeland, which each scored three noms, including recognition for their stunt ensembles. Downton Abbey, Orange Is the New Black, The Big Bang Theory and Veep landed two nominations each.

In the best comedy series ensemble category, Modern Family will face off against Orange Is the New Black, The Big Bang Theory, Veep and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This year's nominations are the first SAG nominations for OITNB and Brooklyn NIne-Nine.

Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Homeland and Downton Abbey will face off against House of Cards in the best drama series ensemble category. HBO's True Detective and CBS' The Good Wife were surprisingly missing from the best drama ensemble category, but both shows landed nominations for their stars (with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson set to face off for the best actor in a drama series award).

There were also a few surprises in the best actress in a drama series category, which has six nominees due to a tie: Viola Davis scored her first SAG nomination for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away With Murder (she previously won two SAG Awards for her role in The Help) and Tatiana Maslany was nominated for her first-ever SAG Award for her critically acclaimed role in Orphan Black, which has thus far been snubbed by the Emmys but did land a Golden Globe nomination last year. Orange Is the New Black's Uzo Aduba also received a best actress in a comedy series nomination, a bit of a surprise considering she won for best guest actress in a comedy series at the Emmys. There's also a bit of history that could be made in this category, as nominee Julianna Margulies is currently tied with Alec Baldwin for the most SAG Awards won at eight apiece. If the Good Wife star wins, she will have the most SAG Awards of any individual actor.

With her best actress in a comedy series nod, Edie Falco scored her record 21st SAG Award nomination, more than any other performer.

HBO scored the most TV SAG nominations this year with 14, followed by ABC, Netflix and Showtime, with five noms each.

It was previously announced that Debbie Reynolds would receive the Life Achievement Award.

Ansel Elgort and Eva Longoria joined SAG-AFTRA president Ken Howard to reveal the nominees, from the Pacific Design Center, with the announcement telecast live on TNT and TBS and webcast live.

The awards will be handed out Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 in a ceremony to be simulcast on TNT and TBS live at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
