Hillbilly Horror Show hits DVD this month. Has this been a long time coming for you? When was the series shot?
We shot volume one of Hillbilly Horror Show back earlier this year, so although it’s gearing towards the end of this year, it still feels like we shot just yesterday! Currently, we just wrapped up filming volume four, so once we get volume one on shelves, we’ll be releasing each volume in the upcoming months. It’s still surreal to think that I’ll be on DVD stands in a matter of weeks.
Do you find it easy to watch yourself on screen?
I’m not going to lie. I almost always laugh at myself when I see myself on screen. Even if the role is not humorous, I can’t take myself seriously quite yet. I’m also the same way when I see photos of myself. Perhaps, that feeling will change with roles to come.
You have to get around in skimpy outfits and do hilariously sexy things on the show – does that make you at all uncomfortable?
There have been a few times where the situation could have easily become uncomfortable, but I try to always maintain a positive outlook on set and laugh at just about everything. By doing so, it helps maintain a fun experience on set. After filming four volumes, everyone on set has quite a number of inside jokes with each other that we always manage to bring up and keep the set lively.
The show premiered on the web originally, is that right?
Yes, it did. We originally started on Vimeo, but we have released on other media outlets like Roku and HorrorShow.TV. Right now we’re finalizing international deals that will also really help spread Hillbilly Horror Show.
Have you discovered you’re a loyal fan base for the show?
Yes, I have. I’ve had a handful of people send me emails and Facebook messages/requests. However, I’m still trying to accept the fact that I could have a fan base. Things have been happening fairly quickly, but I can’t complain!
What makes a good horror short?
In my opinion, a good horror short offers an interesting plot, climax and good acting. There are so many types of horror films so it’s difficult to classify “good.” For me, lightning and special effects are significant; however, these can be overdone quite easily. I need an element(s) to tap into an acknowledged or unrecognized fear that I have. If this happens, I’ll be sure to sleep with a light on.
You've been doing some big movies in recent times – can you tell us about your part in Ride Along 2?
In Ride Along 2 I play Candi, who is a hostess of a club. She shares a primary role with Kevin Hart, Ice Cube and Ken Jeong. I share a connection with Ken’s character as well in the movie, but I can’t give away too much information. You’ll just have to wait until it hits theaters!
