BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Has Star Wars VII Been Delayed?

Read on to find out if Harrison Ford's injury has postponed production.
If you haven't been living under a Dewback for the last week or so, you'll know that Actor Harrison Ford was sent home for 8 weeks to rehab a broken leg he suffered on the set of Star Wars Episode VII. Since then, everyone has been wondering how that would affect the production schedule, particularly if he has a substantial role. And so, the obvious question has been floating around the galaxy: if production is delayed, how will that affect the release date?

According to our friends at Jedi News, “a number of sources” are stating that shooting could be pushed back. This tells us that Director J.J. Abrams could not work around Ford’s absence - which we were initially led to believe - by changing up the planned filming schedule. This still could be the plan, but Jedi News did mention that a meeting was called earlier at Pinewood Studios in London to decide how best to move forward.

Other sites like Making Star Wars and TheForce.net are reporting the same, and have received the same update that the release schedule hasn't been changed. This unfortunate injury does seem to tell us one thing: Ford's role was significant enough that Abrams and Mouse House are considering delaying production. Fans were wondering just how much screen time Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill would get - perhaps this news gives us a better picture of just where Abrams is going.

There seems to be plenty of time for Abrams and team to pull this together in time for its December 18th, 2015 release But they don't have much more wiggle room past the 8 weeks. Again, we're not saying the film will be delayed, but there is apparently enough time to get the film out on time, provided that no other delays are experienced.

Star Wars: Episode VII is currently scheduled for a December 18th, 2015 release. We’ll be sure to let you know if that changes.
