BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Exclusive Interview With Maria Del Mar, She Talks @DevilsMileMovie

A recognizable face across TV and film, Maria Del Mar’s resume boasts the likes of RoboCop : Prime Directives, The Skulls III, 24 and Hannibal.

The actress talks to us about her latest project, the upcoming Devil’s Mile, out August 12.

You’ve worked with [director] Joe O’Brien before. Is that how this came about?

Yes. I have worked with Joe before but this came about in a strange way. I actually posted on FB that I wanted to do something different (professionally, as I have mostly played more traditional roles. Joe saw my post and contacted me. This has started a wonderful exploration creatively for me. I have really been enjoying playing off beat characters as of late. Characters that are not that straight forward and somewhat marginal.

Is it easier working with a director you’ve collaborated with previously?

Joe was the writer of the previous production we worked on together so this most definitely a departure from that. Not to mention there is nothing truly typical of this project.

How different was the role in Devil’s Mile to the one you played in the RoboCop mini-series?

Well, to put it in a nutshell-ENTIRELY. My previous character was a high powered, suit wearing, slick character. She was also quite evil. Strangely, I believe this character is driven more by heart. A fun discovery of her evolution in the film.

And which character is the closest to you?
The relationship with Cassie’s character grows and morphs into the only true bond for my character.

I’ve always wondered, how does an actor ‘come down’ from such an emotionally-draining day of shooting – particular on something as ‘heavy’ as a film like this? Is it easy to switch off?

I don’t like to admit it because it is “acting”, but it does take a toll and after a long day I find I need to unwind. That usually consists of either listening to music, chatting about the day or having a good stiff drink with a friend. Preferably all three if it’s a doozy!

Devil’s Mile is released August 12

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
